What a wonderful throwback to my childhood in the 1950s. Back then, most shops and small stores—especially stand-alone stores in small towns—displayed a large thermometer outside, usually with classic brand advertising, such as Coca Cola or Bull Durham Tobacco. I have hung mine at the far end of the hallway that goes from my living room to the back bedrooms. Whenever I sit in my favorite chair in the living room to read a book, I catch a glimpse of it in the corner of my eye, and smile. Its location is separated by one doorway from my wall display of assorted tobacconalia.
Its displayed temperature differs by only 1 degree from my variously placed digital thermometers. Although I seldom consult its temperature reading, its presence at the end of the hallway is surprisingly joyful.
It measures roughly 17" x 6".
