Someone help me.. Am I seeing things? Is this real? If so, this ugly well-smoked estate pipe is for sale. Yours for the low price of 40k! Don't retire, buy this pipe! A steal. Act now and they'll throw in the grizzly chewed up mouthpiece at no extra cost!

I own a nearly identical pipe, without the metal cap at the bottom, and it looks much nicer than that one (after 50 years!). Mine is not Dunhill. All briar pipes are made from briar root. The price is a mystery to me.

That is one ugly pipe at any price, gaudy with the gold. Though I'm not a fan of that style, Bob's pipe looks way nicer to the eye.

Haha, I actually like the looks of the Porsche pipes, been looking to buy one for years but most want the dear family jewels

De gustibus and all that..

Nor am I. It was a gift from my Mom, in the early 1970s. (Likely cost her ~$100 back then, compared to ~$25 for a production, ebouchon briar pipe.) It won't sit. Won't fit in any pipe stand. Is too heavy. Inner bowl depth is cleaved by the broad notch at the top. And in general, plateaux pipes with that rumpled surface on the top of the bowl are a pita to keep clean (and can harbor sweater-charring embers). Straight grain looks mighty fine, but doesn't smoke any better than random or birdseye grain.

If you are the sort of person willing to be seen in public, smoking a corncob pipe, then the squandering of your children's inheritance on Dunhills, Porsches and Bentleys is probably unnecessary.

Bob
I'm the sort of person who is willing to save as much money as possible while still enjoying my smoke as much as possible. The corncob is in regular rotation here.
