Nostalgic of Canadian Du Maurier Red pre-plain packaging law 2019-2020. Help.

Hello fellow tobacco enjoyers!

To make it short, does anyone know what tobacco blend they used in Du Maurier Red pre 2019-2020 plain packaging law? I was a big fan of that velvety smoky smooth yet satisfying blend. Ever since the law passed all canadian brands I tried taste like dry wood and newspaper it's really terrible. Sadface :-(
I think I want to roll my own custom ones as there doesn't seem to be any alternatives anymore if you actually want to enjoy what you smoke as a canadian post-plain packaging laws.
Also I think I would like to get myself some DuPlus filters or similar (the sturdy ones with the hole in the middle). I would appreciate any help/tips.

It was probably a very simple blend of Canadian bright leaf, plus reconstituted tobacco, glycerin, propylene glycol, and maybe even sugar and sodium benzoate. It's against the law to use air cured tobacco in cigarettes in Canada, so every cigarette is basically the same.

Are Canadian manufacturers allowed to get their tobacco from other countries for their production? Such as Virginia tobacco?

I have had them. I suggest it because DuMaurier is a traditional Canadian brand, and because the government of Canada was very supportive of the tobacco industry until recently, funding tobacco research stations, and dozens of specific Canadian strains of tobacco--not because I've analyzed tasting noted or anything.

If anything has changed since 2019, it is that the government has been working to get tobacco farmers to switch to other crops, resulting in increased need to import tobacco. About a billion cigarettes are made per month in Canada. That's about 10,000 tonnes per year.
In 1998, Ontario alone produced 68,000 tonnes. That dropped steadily into the 00s. You can see that historically, the amount of tobacco imported was only a small proportion of the amount produced and exported, and that import-percentage has gradually increased.

I'm trying to recreate the Du Maurier red experience (pre-plainpackaging-2019), or something similar like Canadian Export A again pre 2019, or Canadian B&H's.
First time trying to describe the experience of my ideal blend so bear with me.. Something smooth yet satisftying when passing down the throat, with good smoke density and a certain fullness, slightly smoky, not dry and not bitter at all when smoked, while unburnt has notes of dried grapes (raisins) and even a very slight chocolate note perhaps.

I tagged a member who might have answers about green death recipes. I think one of the reasons for slow replies is many of the Canadian members are not cigarette smokers.

And many people eventually learn that there's no point in trying to duplicate a blend because the tobacco WLT supplies is better than what mass producers are using.

WLT goes to auction and purchases only the highest grade leaf. I found the Canadian leaf I ordered a few years ago to be less sweet than the American ones, and consequently more of a nicotine kick. This makes sense to me as the Canadian bright tobacco I've grown was also less sweet than that from other countries.

American and European cigarettes use small amounts of tobaccos with no sugar in them, like burley. This increases the pH of the resulting smoke. Since Canadian smokes can't do this, my hypothesis is that producers compensate by growing bright tobaccos that have less sugar in them. Glucose turns into formic acid when it burns.

I can't wait to order my first batch from WLT but I'm still on a lung cleaning break, hoping to last another month or two ideally but I still dream of smoking my cannabis and my tobacco once again, in moderation this time haha, I don't think the hobbit in me will ever die off though
I appreciate the additional infos you guys definitly seem to know your stuff, glad I came to this forum boards, definitly want to try the flue cured virginia bright and I also want to order some flue cured virginia red, and maybe some sort of light fire cured or something else known for its smoky flavour I think would be good starting points, thinking it's still going to look like 70-80% virginia bright, still doing some research though I am curious to hear what other enthusiasts will suggest me.

You really can't go wrong. Those sound like good choices.
If you're interested in some serious kick, and liked the flavour of Drum, back in the day, maybe try 5% of the blend as dark air cured.

I have on other posts. Export A is lemon and red. Export A is a darker tobacco when ryo. The Canadian was probably the best for export A. Dumarier was the hand tied and or a mixture of Bigs orange and Dons Canadian. The double bright leaf is close. Experiment a bit. Dumarier in the traditional sense had some darker viriginia but very little. Players was the golden brown but a denser tobacco.

No problem. So if you see something you like it's best to grab it as the drawback is certain leaf may only be in stock for a short period. So with that being said stock up a bit. Every year there's a new tobacco and with Virginia it can even be from the same farmer etc it can taste different. The Canadian some were saying it was too light and bland. Leave it in the vapour proof bag and open it up after 5 or 6 years. You would not think it was the same tobacco. All in a good way.

Lookup: MAKE YOUR OWN by Rizla. It used to be MAKE YOUR OWN by Imperial Tobacco. Imperial bought Rizla and changed the name.

This filter has been used on Dumaurier king size since I started smoking and until they changed the laws in 2024 and added this new filter that has ruined the cigarette.

The only filter I like is Export A The tobacco that tasted most like DuMarier was that hand tied. I always found for virginia the tobacco had a different taste. The only neutral tube on the market I find is Export A.

Yeah I tried the export A filters, don't like the small filters on them and the burn rate. Also ordered Peter Jackson filters and didn't like those either. So I tried the "MAKE YOUR OWN from Rizla" from ebay and it was the same filter and paper as the dumaurier pre 2024 switch to the white filters when i compared the two. Everyone i know who smokes dumaurier said the same thing, that when they came out with the new filters, it changed the smoke.

Where can I find hand tied or "Bigs orange and Dons Canadian"
