I'm not sure how the Ct Shade will go in the buckets - I just got short on growing space but as I have 15 other Ct Shade in a nice shaded area I can use those in blend elsewhere if needed - trial and error :)
I shredded a bunch 0f CT shade scraps. My cig friend says it's a really light smoke that his wife likes. -- John

Hey Colin - yr will put up more pics in a couple of days.

I have topped the VGold in the 20ltr buckets, these seem to have matured quicker that the plants in the ground. I'm a bit dissapointed in them to be fair - they are tall plants with small leaves and they have been alot of work keeping the water up to them - I can see why an irrigation system or those other blogs I have read about having them in mini plastic swimming pools for watering.

I will be thinking twice about using them next year, its probably unfair to compare them to plants in the ground though.

The CBroad seems to have struggled though the sun grown CShade seems the opposite and has put in solid growth with large leaves, the shade grown CShade is still going good with taller plants and slightly smaller thinner leaves, the VG in the ground and Havana are looking healthy.

Though I still wish I held of planting early as these plants have suffered through the cold and are maturing now when the good weather is in full swing.

All learning for next year - planting times, varietys, buckets vs ground planting

Kaneos,
looks good all over. I am envious of your good looking soil. I like to err on early harvest, rather than later, especially with Virginias, they seem to taste better.

Hi Kaneo they are looking very good, don't worry about the height as it is early days yet. They will soon be trying to reach for the sky and I expect that you won't be able to see your fence. Thanks for posting the Video. I cant wait to get started again next year.

Thanks for the comments on the vid. Been the first season I'm finding it hard to be sure things are going right.

Next year should be more straight forward - touch wood

Kaneo, For your Conn. Shade you have on your porch, you show the leaves beginning to get wrinkled. If you want to use these as cigars wrappers you should harvest them now. Cigar leaf is usually harvested much earlier than cigarette leaf. You do not want krinkled leaf for a wrapper.

I started to harvest some of the potted C/Shade and C/Broad today, I'm also working on my colour curing room, will put up a quick vid of some harvested leaves. There is some small leaves from the C/Shade that I will harvest and seperate out out after they have been in the kiln - another project I need to get onto.

They look just like mine did during the summer. Color cured and kilned they are giving me a fine delicate wrapper. -- John

I really enjoyed your video...nice job.

The wrapper you do want to harvest early. I think your timing is very good. Binder and filler should be allowed to mature a bit more. I would wait at least until the plants mature (flower) and then harvest up to 3 weeks after they mature. If you let the filler mature until 3 to 5 weeks, you'll have a much thicker, full bodied, stronger leaf.

Can I copy your video to the Fair Trade Tobacco youtube page?
