Beautiful grow, Will. Have you left some way to get in and out of your home?

Bob

Actually, there was a 10' X 24' section that I didn't use that ended up being the mustering point for all my lumber for bee equipment. we had room to get in and out but more than anything, the beer hops was the plant that started taking over our entrance way.

I'm thinking that with the manner that the chillards angel leaf grows, it behaves a lot like a burley in the way it grows and cures. I have even touched last yuears leaf wich was sun cured and this year it is being air cured so after proccessing both of then later this year, I'm looking forward to seeing the difference and wether it's good or not.

I've been harvesting the prelip too. I have been noticing a strong bergomot smell from them as I prime the leaf. I've let them yellow a bit in the pail then string them and at that point I notice a strong rose/floral smell. I'm looking forward to seeing what this will add to my burley/fluecured cigarette blend.

3rd priming was already strung and has yellowed up real nice. The first priming has already been finished and taken down.

Good luck with harvest and cure. Prilep is a nice addition to a cigarette blend at 10-15%.

Will,
I can't recall if you've rendered your opinion about the question: does the White Angel Leaf smoke like a burley?

I haven't even proccessed last years leaf let alone smoked it. I've been meaning to but I'll have to wait until later in the fall to get around to it. I'm going to try some of each straight up and then make my a few blends (in cigarettes). I'll post my test in the GD thread of angle leaf.

So the other day I didn't bring enough cigs with me when I went out for a good days work in the bee yard. I ended up buying some pallmall bold XL. That stuff tastes just horrible. I'm going to try some of my old brand soon to see if I'm ruined from using commercial baccy forever.

Since the beginning of june until now, We have had less than 90mm of rain. We are expecting 150+mm over this weekend. right now, it's dumping pretty good.

I've got one more priming to do on most of the plants. The exceptions are Bamboo shoot, lemon bright, african red, barnett special and burley mammoth they are approaching 10 feet in hight and still have 12 more leaves to harvest and thats after already harvesting 12.

I've harvested the seeds from most of the plants already. Burley mammoth hasn't even shown signs of blooming yet, it reminds me of N7371 burley but hopefuly I'll get seed from it this year.

The colour of the baccy after curing is way brighter then I've ever seen it. The smell seems better than other years too, almost sweeter. maybe there's higher sugar it these leaves from curing twice as fast as they did on other years.

Well, we're coming to the end of another season, I'm certianly looking forward to a little break/holiday/time off this winter.

How did your lemon Bright do for you this year?

Very good. I have to say that between Lemon bright, African red, and bamboo shoot, you'll get your dollars worth out of the space they're planted in. The Lemon bright air cured the brightest out of all of them as it did last year also. I think it will be a staple to my blends every year.

Less water (drought) will increase sugar content of leaves. Less water also decreases the major alkaloids ( nicotine etc).

I was watering them pretty good through most of the season, water restrictions be damned. But because of the the hot dry weather they cured faster than normal.

The plants grew and matured very fast too more because of the excellent growing weather with all the sun and heat in combo with good waterings, this was the quickest season I've ever had.

My bamboo shoot plants hit the 11' tall mark, african red was just under at 10.5 feet. I could probably use the stalks to make a frame for a hut or something.

It's been a while since the last priming (which was the 4th priming) but I'm getting out there when ever I get the chance to do the final primings. If I thought I had a lot of baccy last year, this year I think I've done 3 to 4 times as much, in other words, I HAVE A $H!T LOAD OF TOBACCO!!!

The largest crop I've ever had, The best leaf I've grown so far, and by far the best cured from the best varieties so far. I will enjoy experimenting with various blends to see which be the winners for continued growing in the chillards baccy patch.

Too much tobacco is a good problem to have. Looking forward to your reviews over the coming decades.

Sounds like a great year!

Bamboo and African Red both produce specular plants but thin finished leaf for me, not sure either will make the cut for my permanent grow list.

Happy Thanks Giving to my fellow Canadians!

Thankful for a bountiful harvest of good baccy this year from varietis that I was dreaming of growing a few years back and made possible from the seed request from Grin.

This weekend I'll be unstringing the 4th priming and stringing up the last bit of whatever's there is before I rototil the garden. I still have winter prep in the beeyards to do (about a week and a half of work) and some garden and house work to do before I settle down to derib, shred, case, and roll cigs for a stock pile to keep me happy through next year. The varieties will be proccessed seperately so I can try different blends and make a decision on what future massive grows will be.

Next years grow will be fewer plants but with over the top spacing and ultimate soil management to try to grow the largest plants (size matters grow blog). I think it'll be my last year growing anything here since I've started to see some signs of possible viruses showing up although it might just be fungus or something else. Regardless, it'll be the fifth year of growing in this soil and with out crop rotation, I think it's time to give the soil a break from baccy. If I can find another place to grow, i'll take the oppertunity to do it, but we'll be growing a pretty good sized veggie garden next year too.
