Don't Forget to Check for Bud-Worms!

Just a reminder.. while everyone is checking for hornworms and aphids, don't forget about budworms. If you are saving seeds and neglect to check for them come this fall you will most likely have a bunch of seed pods with little tiny holes in them and no seeds. I will be harvesting my tobacco in 2 weeks so I just went down to the field, lifted the seed bags and gave the flower heads a spray of Spinosad. I also sprayed the leaves to kill any residual hornworms that may have excaped the hornworm holocaust from when I sprayed in late June.

In past years, I've misted the bud head with permethrin, just prior to bagging. I've failed to do that this year. I have given the tied bags a shot of BT, but I'm not all that sure that it penetrates the layer of Agribon AG-15. I'm keeping my eye open for budworms.
