In addition to the CV filler line, are any of your wrappers sourced from this supplier and thus would be affected by this change?

The wrapper/binder from CV are...Vuelta Abajo binder and CV PA binder. Many of the wrappers in stock now are older/last bale stock. The advantage of being a smaller buyer is I don't need the same consistency large manufacturers do, so leftover older (well-aged) bales are what I look for. The disadvantage in this is when that leaf is gone, it can not be replaced. That is why I always say..."If you find something you really like, buy it, because it might not be available the next time you order. "

I have to smile, remembering the days when Don could offer only a handful of fillers, and a few wrappers. (And there was the time we went in as a group, to purchase an entire bale of something or other—maybe Nicaraguan viso.) I have not listed the cigarette and pipe tobacco offerings today.

Thank you, Bob... Your contribution certainly adds some perspective to this change. While we're on this topic - the Habano 92' wrapper is fantastic - I have looked high and low for seeds to grow this variety - am I correct in saying that this strain is no longer grown?

Habano 92 is a specific varietal grown in Quilalí, Nicaragua, about 40 miles northeast of Esteli.

Bob

A huge thank you for this information Bob! I searched high and low for information on this tobacco and found little of value. Interestingly, an internet search for Habano 92' by itself only yields (precious little) info on the Cuban Habano 92' - but linking the search with Quilalí Nicaragua, actually yields meaningful results. The Southern Draw Cedrus is one of only a handful of cigars using this tobacco. Considering that this is a new varietal - I give myself about a 0% chance of obtaining any seed....

Your soil isn't going to be the volcanic soil of Nicaragua, and your seasonal weather won't be the same. I would suggest, as a replacement, growing one of the following:
  • Corojo 99
  • Criollo 98
  • Vuelta Abajo
They will be different from the commercial Habano 92, but so would your own, home-grown Habano 92 (if you made the quick trip down to Nicaragua, to snatch some seed).
