Hi all,
New moon on March 10, and it is a good time to sow seeds.

I have a dozen different varieties to trial this year because my outdoor growing season is just 90 days. I'm looking for short season varieties that need little to no artificial lighting or heating to get them going:

Canadian Virginia
Black Samsun
Monte Calme Brun
Little Dutch
Burley
Manitoulin
Aztec
Wisconcin 901
Small Stalk Black Mammoth
Florida Sumatra
Punche
Connecticut Broadleaf

The longer season plants I will start on the 10th, while the shorter season ones will be started on May 7.

Long story short, the season sucked.

I grew in a new location and the soil is terrible. All the plants were either eaten by bugs or were stunted and produced leaves unsuitable for smoking.

On the bright side, I had a bunch of left over thinnings I couldn't bare to kill so I stuck them on a pile of old woodchips that had been covered with the good from the chicken coop and rabbitry.

Well didn't they go gangbusters, and I ended up with a great harvest from these plants.

Here is a photo of a brick of compressed and dried burley I am bringing back into case.
