Today (20 September 2021), a volcano is erupting about 7 or 8 miles from Hacienda del Cura, though its lava appears to be flowing in the opposite direction for now.

Typical Vuelta Abajo, Habano character. It was an infestation of blue mold that forced Cuban growers to introduce newer varieties, like the series of Criollos and Corojos, into the Piñar del Rio.

Yes, Bob... it was true that best cigars of Canary Islands come from La Palma but that was 20 years ago. One of my uncles lived on La Palma for 15 years and when he visited us he brought boxes of cigars. Many families lived on tobacco together with the cultivation of bananas.
I hope the volcano doesn't destroy this beautiful land!

Looks like the island really is getting bigger!

Over 800 acres of fertile land (and the sites of the previous inhabitants) have been entombed in lava. Not only were their homes, fields, and sole source of livelihood destroyed, but there is no going back during their lifetimes.
