Hello all!

My interest in tobacco is mostly in smoking cigars and pipes on occasion. I don't have the luxury of time and money to consume those often so I'm not going to tag myself as a connoisseur to any extent, but I enjoy it when I can.

And so because of money (or lack of money), I decided to try myself at growing tobacco this year, although I'm limited to growing in pots on my patio. Since this is all new for me, there is a lot of "I don't know what I'm doing!!".

I suppose I'll be lurking here around these topics: growing tobacco, rolling cigars, making pipe blends. I've been active on another platform and it is only recently I've taken interest in this community.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum. Read the New Growers' FAQ, and scan through the topics in our Index of Key Forum Threads. Both are linked in the menu bar.

Your plants look wonderful. What varieties are you growing?

Hello! Thanks!

  • Scent of Italy
  • Obourg
  • 'Turkish' (the seller doesn't know what kind of Turkish, "but it's Turkish")
  • Little Canadian
  • "Big Red Strong" (translated from French)
I have three pots per variety, one plastic pail, one fabric 5 gallons grow bag and one fabric 5 gallons grow bag. I also wanted to test the difference between each type of container. 15 plants in total (although one Obourg didn't make it).

As I mentioned, I didn't know much what I was doing when I started all of this. I decided quite late that I might try to grow myself, so I found a local web store that sold seeds, ordered without knowing much, and planted (one month later than I should have). But still, here I am!

I would have expected them to grow much taller too, but I suppose the growing conditions and the time at which I started didn't help.

I'm not sure how any of these will taste, nor if they're any good for what I intend to do with them (cigars); in any case, good or bad, they'll end up in smoke if they're smokable.

I'll make sure to take a look at the FAQ and explore the forum threads, thanks!
