Hi everyone,
I been browsing this site for a while now but been busy with planting my new baccy plot to do this bit. I’m a bit late this year (health problems) and just got my daughter up to help. I live almost at the top of the North Island New Zealand and we grow all year round, my neighbour hasn’t even got his seeds in yet. He likes to grow in the winter. Curing is a problem in winter so I’m working on a kiln.
I been trying different things for a while then I found this Great forum and figured I was reinventing the wheel.
Thanks to you all I got it sorted. Testing now I’m on week two.
I’m a bit slow at this stuff so please don’t worry if I take a wee while to reply.
Looking forward to many happy hours of chatting an trying different types of tobacco.
Cheers Jhonny.
(Yep that’s how it’s spelt)

and welcome from me.

Yep its bliss being able to grow all year round. It saves the hassle of mucking around trying to get seeds going. They just grow all year round without any artificial light or heating.

I am growing vegies for a change this year. However I have tobacco plants sprouting up all over the property especially in the middle of the lawn which is not entertaining me at all. Nuisance value.
So I am pulling digging them all out as mowing them does not stop their growth. Good household composting. Thats the answer to a good crop of anything :)

Cheers
Jenny

Thanks for your welcome what variety are all your stray plants? I may have to scrounge some. I'm not happy with my plants this year. The leaves are a funny shape. Left too long before planting out I hope. Still never mind my neighbour has plenty.

Welcome... and good luck.

what are you growing for?, pipe?, Cigarette?
Hi thanks to all of you guys who have welcomed me. I grow for cigarettes, got no teeth so can't hang on to a pipe . Got some new seeds to try blending with my Virginia gold might be good. Be a nice change anyway.

G'day Jhonny.

I ditched the ciggies for a pipe around ten years ago. Never liked having a cig dangling from my lips. Same goes with a pipe, I will not clench one in my mouth [Hate the feeling of taking in sidestream smoke with every breath]
Needing two hands to smoke has cut back my tobacco consumption heaps.
None-the-less, smoking homegrown tobacco is way better than smoking commercial blends.

Not sure if it was you that I mentioned this to before [My rant about Aussie laws was deleted, lol] but Kiwis are permitted to order whole leaf tobacco from O/S up to a certain limit. [$400 IIRC] Orders need to be declared so it can be heat treated.
A good way to go until you've got your own homegrown supply going.

Hi,
I've never been a pipe fan, just enjoy my ciggies. I think it might have been me you sent your rant to, no worries though. I need to be careful here I've some how managed to double up on my last post, I'll have to get my grandkids to show me how to edit it, I can't work out. Hope you have a good grow season.

Don't worry about double posts. The mods are rather relaxed about these things & very helpful [Note to self; no rants, lol]
The edit function expires after a certain time limit [5 minutes maybe?]

Like many smokers, it took me a few attempts over the years before I was able to switch from cigarettes to a pipe. After more than 35 years of smoking cigarettes & numerous quit attempts, one day around ten years ago I became determined to pick up a pipe & stick with it.
It does take most of us some time before we learn how to pack a bowl of tobacco to give a satisfying smoke. The other mistake that many of us make is to choose aromatic blends that bite. [Like kids in a lolly shop, we see blends like cherry & vanilla & think 'Ooh, that sounds good!' lol. These are the ones most likely to bite]

Now I smoke for pleasure rather than addiction [Why I choose blends with low nicotine]
Switching to a pipe was the best choice for me as I was heavily addicted to ciggies. Now I can go many hours without & not even notice when otherwise occupied.

Until I did some research it hadn't occurred to me that tobacco isn't the problem, it's the 300+ chemicals that are added to tailor-made cigarettes that's the main cause of disease. If I had realised this before I switched to a pipe & learnt to grow my own tobacco, I probably would have seen no reason to make the change either.

Good luck with your grow.

Hi
I'd agree with the too many chemicals in bought tobacco. I started growing my own about 9-10 years ago. Three or so years ago I spent some time in hospital and never missed it, but that's another story.
