Hey all. I've smoked a pipe and cigar randomly for about 20 years. As of late, I have picked it up even more thanks to an old friend who opened my eyes to pipe smoking and it's potentials. What I used to spend on cigars, I can now spend on pipes and - if I find the right smoke and tobacco - can have just as enjoyable a time, more frequently, and at a much cheaper rate.
I have had many occupations: but most prominently are web developer, farmer, and as of late I am a welding/ag teacher.
I don't know if there are stages to pipe smoking, but if I could describe it: learning to light and smoke, learning what blends you enjoy, blending your own, then growing your own.
I am currently in the "blend your own" stage and hope to participate in the "grow your own" stage sometime in the next several years. I want to ensure I understand the nuances of each tobacco I enjoy before I commit.
I hope to also create a tribute blend I take with me on a yearly fishing trip with extended family that I can share with those who also enjoy the art of smoking.
Being that this forum is a plethora of good conversations about many aspects of tobacco I am interested in, I want to participate.
Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.
