I want to say thank you to everyone on this forum. Over the past month, I have read innumerable threads and took copious notes. I am standing on your shoulders and I’m very grateful for the time you have all taken to share your experience. Consequently, I went from almost no knowledge to a pretty good handle in a short time. And I already have half a dozen blends that I am very pleased with. I can only suppose they will improve with time.
This week, I will embark on my first time making Cavendish using all the information gleaned here.
Here is one thing that I have not read but which I’m sure you all are aware of. The commercial tobacco I was used to always left a certain amount of moist dottle at the bottom of the bowl. My homemade blends, however ate uncased and very low case. As a consequence, I am regularly coming to a very fine ash at the bottom of the bowl. If I’m not careful, the bowl can get pretty hot at the end. I am having to learn to just stop smoking towards the end of the bowl.
Anyway, I sincerely appreciate you all.
