Virginia Red Flue-cured for Pipe Blending
I received some Virginia Red FC yesterday. What a lovely, fragrant and tasty leaf. The reddish-yellow Virginia begged to be blended into a new pipe mixture.

Jewel of Macedonia (an English mixture), hand-shredded from rollcake of each ingredient:
- VA Red flue-cured: ~40% [from WLT]
- Prilep 66-9/7 flue-cured: ~20% [my own]
- Cyprian Latakia: ~25% [from WLT]
- Pressure-cured Perique: ~10% [my own]
- Dark Cavendish-processed (Bolivia Criollo Black): ~5% [my own]
Visually, the blend reveals a medium-length pipe-shred ranging from pitch black to golden, with occasional larger pieces. The pouch aroma is reminiscent of the famed Baby's Bottom of many years ago. The lower Perique ratio leaves some acidity, noticeable in a slight tang. The modest proportion of Latakia, of course, adds a rich smokiness--not overpowering. Just this bit of Cavendish fills out the flavor with a subtle, toasty undertone. The flue-cured Prilep is seen in the brightest colors, and the smooth, mild aroma.

EDIT: The whole-leaf Latakia was not stemmed, but shredded as-is.
