Hi folks, well I've been spared for another year so on with another grow. This year I've gone with Canek, Bitlis and Limonka. Usually I sow the seeds just before I jet off for some much needed sun but a couple of weeks ago I had my second whole knee replacement so I'll not be cutting around any time soon. Normally the seeds are sprouted by the time I return from hols so it'll be interesting to see when they appear and in what order.

Do you sprinkle the seeds out into the trays and pluck them out and put them in separate containers once they germinate? I'm trying to understand if it's better for the seedlings (you want to keep) to be kept in the initial mix they are planted in and discard others, so the ones you want to keep aren't disturbed as much, or does it not matter?

Once the seedlings are large enough to transplant I fill my cells with compost, soak them then using a pencil or similar I make a hole in each one. Then I dump the seedlings into an old washing up bowl filled with water. Swoosh them around and the soil washes off and falls to the bottom then I just select the best looking seedlings and pop them into the holes.

I see. Thanks for the info!

You'l have so much you can't shake a stick at it. Them little pin head seads turn into towering plants just waiting for tiger moths and such to devour and decimate unless you keep an eye on em

Yes I shan't grow all of them, just a half dozen or so. I like the sound of the Tiger Moths, I dont think ive ever seen one here but they sound the real deal.

@Old Gasman Looks like a good start ( touch wood). I was gonna germinate mine last week but due to going on holiday end of April for 3 weeks, I've had to move my schedule forward just over 1 week or so. Otherwise I'll pass the optimum time to transplant outside in May. Need to give them a full 85-100 days outside this year haha before the UK weather changes ;)

This is unheard of, the weather is like summer, if this is global warming I'm all in favour of it. My little plants are enjoying the hot humid conditions in my greenhouse and hopefully in another week I can get them planted out once I've emptied my compost bins. 20250501_135011.jpg20250501_135020.jpg
I'm also quite pleased how my fly traps and sarracenia are coming along!

I should've been following you before I grew this year. For some reason I thought I could transfer seed the moment they sprouted, I think my early hasty transplants are all dead :/. Good looking plants!
