We've been preaching about reducing picture sizes before posting for years. I've set the max size that can post, but if someone uploads a 17mb file, your phone won't open it.

I'll check with the guru, but I'm pretty sure it's your phone.

I have a dumb phone so I don't know, but can you upload your big pictures to photobucket? You can resize them in photobucket, then download them to the forum. I think the new maximum size is 800x600 pixels, or it could be 800x500.

Whichever the short size is, I know the long size is 800 pixels so set the long side to 800 and it will automatically adjust the short size.

The resolution is set at 3264 X 2448 and is not adjustable on the phone unless you download a app.
Once I changed the size to less than what Knucks mentioned all was fine.
It worked fine before until your last change.
It is jpg. I just tried it again with a pic that was not resized smaller and got Error
Upload of file failed. Message

It has more to do with file size than the MP resolution of the camera too.

A friend of mine has a dslr camera that is only 4mp, but his saved images are nearly double the file size of my pics taken with an 8mp portable camera.

You can always tell what dads obsessions are from daddy's little girl..my daughters about the same age (7) she's the same..she's sees me writing germation dates etc...and says look mum dads doing tobacco science stuff..I just laughed

I can't see the pictures. I do have firefox, but this only started after the last forum change. If I dump my cache and history, I can see some of the pictures for awhile, then can't. It's not all pictures, just some of them. When uploading pictures before the change, I could just edit the picture size to 50% of it's current size which was fast and easy. Now I have to go by the pixel size and make sure it's less than 800 x 500. I'm not computer savvy enough to know how or if this could be related, but I have to now clear my cache to hear the sound on youtube, which I didn't have to do until around the time of the forum change. Usually, I go there from a link placed here. Coincidence, or firefox problem rather than forum server issue, I have no idea, they just all coincided about the time of last switchover.

What file type are you using (jpg, pmg, bmp). The file max. size is set at 400,000...I'm assuming that Kb. Isn't that 40 megs? If it's 40 megs, that's plenty big enough.
I would guess that 400,000 is bytes, so 400 KB or 0.4 MB. Most of the images that I post are in the range of 100 KB. At a given image dimension, a jpg can be stored in various levels of compression, which determines the number of bytes of storage the image requires.

Hadn't used my phone to post pics for a while, so I got the "file too big" message last night.

The message I got is maximum size is 800x640.

I found a free Android app called "Image Shrink" that allows you to set your desired image size in pixels. Really easy to use. Go to your photo gallery, select the pic you want to upload and touch your "share" button. You will be prompted with several icons for where you want to send your image; one of those will be for the "Image Shrink" app. Touch it and done. The app will create a new photo album on your phone for the smaller image, which you can upload normally.

Hope this explanation is clear as mud......:)
