Pool Noodle Cigar Mold

Garden20191216_4900_poolNoodleMold_700.jpg

Certified 56 ring x 7" cigar mold.

This cigar mold requires some knife-wielding skill. Go to the local Dollar store, and buy a leftover closed-cell foam swimming pool noodle. Those with a cylindrical profile will exert a more uniform pressure than those with a star-like profile. Color may be important to you.

INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. cut to desired cigar length
  2. split the length on one side
  3. insert bound cigar bunch
  4. wrap in a Dollar store dish towel
  5. rotate bunch 45° after 15 to 30 minutes
  6. remove bunch after overnight rest

Concerns about bacterial growth can be addressed by playing with the mold in a well-chlorinated swimming pool from time to time. Marco! Polo!

Pool Noodle Mold Result

Garden20191229_4914_cigar_HondurasWrapper_poolNoodle_600.jpg

Morning coffee dripping alongside a prospective smoke.

A bound bunch was compressed in the pool noodle overnight, then wrapped in an untrimmed WLT Honduran Wrapper. No glue. It was held at the head by a wooden clothespin (even during bunch pressing inside the pool noodle), then allowed to rest in the open for 24 hours.

It's not perfectly smooth. But considering the simplicity and low cost of the mold, and my haphazard rolling technique, the result is not too bad.
