I recently watched a “snus at home video”where he makes dipping tobacco with fire cured tobacco and claims it’s similar to Copenhagen. It is scotch whiskey, water, washing soda, and salt. You don’t need to cook it. I made a batch and the nicotine is pretty high but doesn’t taste very good. I was thinking of adding a little licorice root powder. Would cooking be better and then adding the alkalizer and scotch? Thanks

A long, slow cook does tend to help the flavor. Afterwards, you need to let the batch rest for about a week or two.
If you don’t want to cook it, store it in the fridge for 3 days and taste it, again. I usually find the flavor is better after this short rest.

Are you adding in stems with your snuff? Or are you deribbing the leaves before grinding? The stems or ribs (not sure of the technical term) can make it taste pretty nasty. I tried adding 30% midrib to my snus and it tastes pretty bad, so now I just throw them away and only use the lamina or leaf part. I've tried licorice root and it does tase sweet. Just go easy on it and add a little at a time. In the snus at home video he uses quite a lot of the stuff and I think that's too much. Just do a little and taste, and add more as necessary. In large amounts licorice root can be toxic.
