Anyone going to the big pipe show near Richmond, VA this fall? The show is Oct 7-8-9. I'm probably going to make the 3 hour drive and go to it Saturday morning and then head on over to Historic Williamsburg.

Howdy Randy,

I will have to check, we have a wedding in early October, but not sure of the exact date. Where's it at in Richmond? Chuck.

From my location, it's actually closer to drive to Cornell & Diehl, in Morganton, NC. The route there passes through Statesville, NC, home of one of JR Cigars' major cigar humidors (only slightly less floor space than my house) and outlet store. It would be fun going to the pipe show, though. I haven't done much distance driving since the gas prices went through the roof. In the past, I made 5 pilgrimages to JR, just for the aroma of the humidor. (Of course, I picked up a few stogies, since I was already there.)

I'm seriously thinking about fighting my basic instinct and driving toward a city--Richmond and the pipe show.

Info here, including directions: That time of year it might be a good time to get together and share our latest fermented leaf!

Howdy Bob & Randy,

I could make it to the pipe show on Saturday, the 8th. I should have some of this year's leaf colour curing and should have it fermented and will bring some samples.

Pls let me know if that will work for you guys. Chuck.

Chuck, I was planning on Friday, but if you are going to be there Saturday I'll change my plans. I should also have a bunch of fermented leaf too.

I just returned from the pipe show. I was somewhat dissapointed. A lot of people were selling pipes and a lot were selling tobacco but no one was selling the things I went for, mainly, pipe making supplies. I thought there would be people there selling briar blocks and stems, etc. It was interesting though to see everyone in the place smoking.. reminded me of the good old days!

Howdy Randy,

Sorry, I wasn't able to make it to the show in October. It would have been good to talk with a fellow grower. Between working a ton of OT, running the farm, grandkids and more on the way - I've been booked solid. My tobacco was knocked down by Irene. About 1/3 of them were bent over, but alive and I allowed a single sucker to grow off the bottom of the plant, I was hoping for the frost to hold off till about the first week in Nov. and we got an early frost. I got a couple of pounds of baccy from the suckers, better than nothing. Hope things are going well for you -- Chuck.

Hey Chuck, even though I wasn't too impressed I'll probably go back next year. I made a weekend out of it. I went to Williamsburg and Jamestown, then spent the night further north at my brother's in Gordensville. I grew a 2 year supply of tobacco this year because I'm afraid I too might get wiped out by an "Irene" too.
