Hello. I am a recent transplant to North Carolina. I was born and raised in central Iowa. We raised corn and soybeans. I'd only seen tobacco from the highways. I'm retired now, and we're living near our kids/grandchildren just south of Raleigh. I obtained a few tobacco plants from my local county extension office. I'm interested in the growth cycle of tobacco... I've got 4 rows (about 100 plants) planted in a 36' x 30' area of my property, and 4 rows of cotton... I'm excited about this experiment this summer!!f7afb4ed-d181-4120-af3b-6cd5541abc14.jpg

how do you control weeds in tobacco?
Once the tobacco is in the ground, I use a hoe, and sometimes get down on my knees, and pull out weeds with my hands and a small garden tool. That's a bit of work. I've done that with grows of several hundred plants.

During colonial times, 1 acre of tobacco was considered a full-time job for a single man. Two acres could be handled with a married man joined by his spouse and all his children.
