Do keep in mind that books written prior to about 1920 completely ignore genetics, and the practices that insure the purity of a strain.

I read the book by Lock years ago and it was interesting from a historical perspective but I love history. The book was like looking at a black and white photo of horse drawn farm equipment and trying to determine how to start a modern farm. Having already read the forum prior to reading it, there was nothing useful to glean from it, so much has changed since it was written. Starting seed under lights, pest control, fertilizers, home flue cure and kiln, etc. I’m not trying to discourage anyone from reading it, I’m just saying newbie’s shouldn’t pick it up thinking it‘s a how to grow tobacco beginners book.
