Twin Hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday (25 AUG 2020)

Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisana and Texas may all get hit on their coasts. Keep an eye on these.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — High temperatures in Austin today climb to 103°, our 20th-straight day of triple-digit heat, tying the third most consecutive days on record. The current forecast projects the all-time record of 27 days will be in jeopardy late next week, but a tropical storm or hurricane could break the streak. Hurricane season is ramping up as we are tracking dual tropical depressions in the Atlantic Ocean, both forecast to intensify to hurricane strength and move into the Gulf of Mexico simultaneously early next week. If the storm treks farther west in the cone, rain and cooler weather would likely break our record heat wave [YEA!]. If it treks farther east into Louisiana, we will be even hotter and drier than we would otherwise be [Boo!].

Tropical storms Laura & Marco are still headed into the Gulf of Mexico. Their exact paths and strengths are still difficult to predict. Simultaneous hurricanes in the Gulf has never happened, and the weather models are becoming dyspeptic trying to figure out their possible interaction. Regardless, the Gulf coast is going to get a heap of wind and rain.

These two storms are confusing all the models. As of the 5 pm model runs, Marco will smack into New Orleans Monday morning, maybe as a hurricane, and Laura will smack into New Orleans Wednesday morning as a Hurricane. National Hurricane Center doesn't even have a map developed that can show the paths of both of them simultaneously.

There are still a lot of uncertainties regarding the paths and intensities of both storms. Within about 24 hours, the details are likely to be much clearer.

They are already affecting the the weather here. I woke up to a very unexpected thunderstorm that dumped 1.75 inches of rain! That never happens this time of year. Not complaining as we certainly needed the rain - it was a pleasant surprise.

Not very, and I shouldn't be making light of a situation that will be serious for some people. Every time some event happens or may happen it gets hyped up so much in the media it sounds like the end of the world is coming and we are all going to die. Hence the statement.
I'm far enough north (southern Arkansas) that we will probably just get a lot of wind and rain and possibly a spin off tornado in my area. We are going to have a lot of pissed off farmers and probably a decent economic loss in our region from this. It's is peak harvest season and the windy rainy weather is going to cause some serious lodging issues with the rice harvest. I do feel bad for my friends in the Galveston area.

This storm has already killed at least 13 people, prior to strengthening into a hurricane. The current predictions are for it to strike the Gulf Coast as a Category 3 major hurricane.

We are getting messages from the power company saying to expect power outages Thursday and Friday lasting for an undetermined length of time. Out here that usually means about a week. 93 on Saturday and very humid and mid to high 80's for most of the rest of the week - I'm really going to miss my air conditioner. Time to go stock up on beer, charcoal and of course face masks (those have been scientifically proven to prevent the spread of hurricanes as well - ok, maybe not).
