Today is the finest day we have had in what feels like forever. The birds are singing, the lizards are out and active. Spring is coming in, and first thing this morning a package arrives.

My birthday present to myself. Towards the end of last month I had my 27th birthday, and decided to treat myself. My first Cuban cigars.

I spent my morning relaxing, filling my planter trays with proper seed planting soil (I got paranoid I did it completely wrong in my grow blog, so will plant a few more), and sat down for lunch with a nice cup of coffee. I pondered if I wanted to use a punch or my cigar cutter for my first ever good quality cigar, and chose my cutter.

Cigars (as well as all tobacco products in Australia) are fairly expensive. I settled on a box of 10 Romeo Y Julieta Mille Fleurs, the only thing really in my price range here.

What a good experience. I could count on one hand how many cigars I have smoked in my life, but this is what I shall call my first. Nothing else compared to the smooth smoke that came from a well kept cigar.

I walked around for a while, my girlfriend showing me the orchids that were growing wild on the property.

As I sat I wondered if anyone else had a story of their first cigar, or if they had any fond memories involving them at all.

Feel free to add as much embellishment to your post as you see fit!

Nice story.

What's the date on those cigars? I have various boxers of those, and with the ones I have they are very age-dependent. Consider getting the Monte No 4 for your second evers. Same price, usually, but a notch up.

Mine was a Punch. I'd smoked all kinds of stuff all my life, but when I lit that thing up I just KNEW it was gonna kill me of cancer before I finished my walk. I went walking down a tree-lined street smoking it on an autumn day, feeling like a dangerous lunatic criminal. Sort of like my first time getting it on.

That was 30+ years ago, and as far as I know I'm still alive.

Well, I can't seem to remind my very first cigar, but I have a very clear memory of one of the very firsts of them, it was a cuban too : a H. Upmann Magnum 46 (is it the right number... I am not sure of this detail).
My brother bought it and brought it back to our house (how old was I ... ? maybe 20 ? not sure of this detail either !).
As soon the cigar was lit, it gave some wonderfull smells.
We smoked it together, the flavors/aromas were very creamy, spicy, smooth and complex. A real treat... so good that we proposed our mother to try it, and she did ! and she enjoyed it all the same (even if she doesn't smoke at all).
What a pleasant moment, there are so few in a lifetime...
It's a strong souvenir I keep in my mind and in my heart.

Mine are written as ABR 17, so I believe that is April 2017 (?)
There is SOM written above that, does that have any significant meaning?

I actually looked at the Monte's but they only came in a pack of 5 for me, and then jumped to a box of 25. These had a box 10 option, and well..... I really wanted a box haha.
The best thing was that it came in it's original box with original bands (Australia is SUPER strict on plain packaging laws here, most cigars to my understanding need to be packaged in a crappy olive green packaging with plain green printed bands). Maybe it's slightly different for the online stores here, they aren't even allowed to have images on their websites of the cigars, the boxes, or any artwork really whatsoever.

I smoked cigarettes for probably close to 3-4 years total (Finally kicked the habit a few years ago though), and other assorted things.
I will admit I felt like a mobster for a short while, but that soon subsided into a happily content and relaxed individual.

How nice for you that one of your first was also one of the best there ever was.
