What's the best tobacco to grow for a single variety cigar?

So I want to try growing my first crop and was wondering if there is a best single plant variety to grow that'll make a decent cigar. I'm in Southeastern WI.

Welcome to the forum. Feel free to introduce yourself in the Introduce Yourself forum. Do read our New Growers' FAQ, and scan through the topics in our Index of Key Forum Threads. Both are linked in the menu bar.

For a Caribbean-style cigar, I find that Corojo 99 makes a great puro—and is even better with some blending. The Corojo 99 can serve easily as wrapper and binder and filler, and is one of the most productive cigar varieties I have grown. Other members certainly have other favorites.

Northwood Seeds produces Corojo 99 seed, though it may not be listed. You can PM @skychaser, the owner, to see if he has any available, or just inquire on the Northwood Seeds website.

Thanks guys! I've always been a cigar guy on the course and thought it would be cool to try rolling my own. A few kits later and I feel it would not be a wasted effort to grow a few plants this summer to have a 100% "my own" cigar. Anyone have any knowledge of "Havana 142"? Apparently it has WI origins and I'd love to use it if it's possible.
