Welcome to the forum. Feel free to introduce yourself in the Introduce Yourself forum.

There are a number of different reasons why any tobacco may burn poorly.
  • Too moist
  • Inadequately cured
  • Ambient humidity too high
What is the source of your flue-cured tobacco?

If you grew this tobacco yourself, then there is one more, common reason why it may burn poorly. If the soil contains too much chlorine, then tobacco grown in it will not burn well. For that reason, I use low-chlorine fertilizer. A chlorine salt in the fertilizer may be listed as "chloride" or "muriatic acid" or "murate". If you use manure, then there is no way to know.

Over 100 years ago, the author, Constantanides suggested that tobacco grown closer to the coast does not burn as well as tobacco grown further inland. I believe this is not true, but rather that certain Oriental tobacco varieties do not combust as well as others. For example, my Samsun always burns well, but my Xanthi not as well.

Flue-cured Virginia usually burns very well. I have flue-cured a number of different Oriental varieties, and they all seemed to burn well.
