VA 309 is a cross between VA 312 and Lizard Tail Orinoco. It is often used in tandem with a blend of Burley and Flue Cured for creating a traditional European type cigarette. It is also widely used to make smokeless tobacco (snuss/dip) and as a cigar filler.
Grown in Kentucky and Fire Cured, this tobacco leaf is fired at low heat. This results in and exceptional color. Once the color is achieved, the temperature is increased to cure down to the mid-rib of the leaf and darken further. You will find that this product possesses a smoky taste along with hints of roasted hickory, oak, or maple.

The pack I got is labelled Tennessee Dark Fire Cured, so that’s what this review covers. The KY fire cured listed should work the same. Perfect case for shredding out of the pack and lovely smokey aroma. When blended 50/50 with Dark Air Cured and properly processed it makes an excellent american style dip/snuff similar to Grizzly/Copenhagen. Will definitely be ordering more. Very recommended.

Great tobacco! Dense full bodied smoke. Hints of autmn campfire, finishes with a touch of hickory. Excellent stand alone smoke. Very smooooth. Good puffer. Will be in my future purchases.

Excellent tobacco! I like my RYO a little on the smokey side, so 3/4 dark and 1/4 bright gives me the perfect smoke!

I personally really like it as a flavor, for me it is top 1,
together with Virginia Bright + Lemon + little Threshed Maryland 609.

Labelled Tennessee fire cured. I usually get the light but went with the dark this time. The smell is just like a hardwood campfire, same as the light but stronger smell. I usually buy fire cured to blend and it has a nice aroma even at 20% of the blend. I usually make my cigarettes in advance so the smoke aroma has time to infuse in the paper tubes. Makes a great smoke without being overwhelming. I’m always amazed at how smooth the smoke is, not harsh but a very smoky taste. I always expect a strong kick from dark leaf but this one is all about aroma and taste, which is why I add a generous amount of burley to add throat hit and overall strength to make a extra bold smoke.
