This wrapper is the real McCoy and not the contemporary new version that wraps itself around the cigar. It is grown in the San Andrés Valley, in the heart of Mexico’s cigar country. San Andres Valley has a rich, fertile volcanic soil that produces this distinctive-tasting tobacco.
As with Connecticut Broadleaf, San Andres is stalk-cured, which produces a great wrapper. It is known for its earthy, smooth, and toasty flavor and sweetness, similar to a Maduro wrapper.
As with all Whole Leaf Tobacco products, this leaf comes in proper moisture content for working, but additional moisture will be needed to make the wrapper more pliable and elastic for wrapping.

I am truly a fan of this leaf as a wrapper. It can be very rough and has a lot of holes but with the right cutting skills you can get around it. The key is to cut above the hole by a few centimeters and you’re good. Not the prettiest leaf that WLT offers but I think it’s the tastiest wrapper that we can get online. PERIOD. TRUST me, this is the wrapper that you want. The smell of this leaf reminds me of mesquite for some reason. It’s amazing.

Of the other 2-3 retailers offer San Andres, this is the best. I’ve tried them all and this is has some distinct differences, such as aroma, thickness, tensile strength and less of a “BBQ smoked” smell from the leaf out of the package. Very smooth, mild-medium strength, believe it or not.
