There seem to be a number of different "One Sucker" varieties (e.g. KY 153 One Sucker, KY 157 One Sucker, KY 160 One Sucker, KY 165 One Sucker, LN KY 171 One Sucker, IG KY 171 One Sucker, SI KY 171 One Sucker, OS400 One Sucker), which all are classed as Dark (air or fire or sun).

My understanding is One sucker is the name for dark tobacco that is not used for firing . But is not a fire variety .
Now days with modern breeding they seem to call any dark variety tobacco that can be unfired or fired as one sucker .I believe This because farmers wants a variety to fire or un fire their tobacco . KY 160 is a air cured variety .
Some varieties dark tobacco is fired or left to air cure . It can be fired or unfired .
Some varieties are fire only .

I keep my tobacco separate by
Dark air only , as one sucker
Dark air , can be fire or plain air cured but has not been fire cured
Dark fire a variety that is fired .Can be a fire or a unfired variety but has been fire cured .

It also works well in Cigars too! Potent stuff, nice raisin-esque flavor note too. I may have to add a little less in my blends though, may have to cut it back to ¼ of a half leaf. Huge leaves, like Fire-cured.

Bob is correct yet again! Anyone surprised? I ran a test this week, so I want to make a clarification. WLT's Dark Air is potent and raisin-esque. I have this one on hand too. BigBohnner's (One Sucker)Dark Air is more like a Honduran Viso, nice and earthy. For me, the difference is how I personally use them, so hope this helps. WLT's Dark Air I cut smaller (smaller than Liguero), and I'll continue getting it. BigBohnner's I'll roll a whole cigar like this including Binder, then use a thin wrapper. I like the earthiness like Honduran. I will continue to get this one too.

Two different leaves, but both good.

I recently had the chance to try the WLT Dark Air 2012 thanks to a sample sent to me by Knucklehead. I thought I would go bold and take one of my previously rolled cigars (it had a Pa Oscuro wrapper and binder with mixed filler) and put on a second wrapper of the dark air. The first third it was nice, had a good robust kick to it, but the last two thirds the nicotine got concentrated and got to my gut. So, I believe I will take the advise of either A.D., or Deluxe and put maybe just a one inch strip into my filler blend and see how that works out. I like the taste of the WLT dark air, but I don't want too much that it makes me put out the cigar before it is even half done. Knucklehead, I haven't tried the Yellow Twist bud in a blend yet, the dry smell is real nice, hopefully the nicotine is a bit lower. I will most likely go small with that leaf as well. Thanks again for letting me try them.

That's good to know about the YTB, should expect to not get bit by the nicotine monster. Going on vacation to the Bahamas next week, this is the first time I will be taking my own sticks to smoke for the week. I am going to throw in the newly rolled YTB and Dark air and see how they taste in a vastly different climate than what I am in now! Thanks for the suggestion on the Burley Red Tip. I hope to soon be able to give as much as receive, but I need to replenish my supply.....and that wont be hard seeing the new stuff coming in at WLT.

My experience with YTB is it is mild if you prime it. If you let it get ripe, it's as nasty as any other Burley until its cooked.

I will assume Knucklehead's is done right......but, I will go slow and treat it with respect. On another note, I just got to know a menonite person whose brother grows tobacco here in Lancaster County. I want to see what he is growing and find out what I can acquire, even if it is tobacco types that I can't use maybe I can offer them to some of the members for trade, etc.

Got my leaf from BB in the other day and it's wonderful stuff! Got here super quick and had a chance to shred and test out all the different varieties. Each an excellent smokes! I'd easily recommend BB and will be going back for more.

It's been a year or two (can't remember) since I purchased a large quantity of burley red tips from BigBonner. I thought I had used it all.

A couple of days ago, while excavating a huge carton of stored tobacco, I discovered a bag of BB burley that contained several pounds. I carefully pried it apart and rehydrated two small batches. Today, I was able to roll some cigars with it. The filler was half BB burley and half 2 year old, kilned Vuelta Abajo. I also used BB burley as the binder. Wrapper types were various.

My guess is that the burley rested in low case for at least 6 to 8 months (maybe a year or more). What a yummy cigar! Rich, earthy, nutty tastes, with a deep undertone.

An all burley cigar tastes wonderful, but will put hair on your chest (or in my case, cause more hair to vanish from my head). The half burley cigar rings in at about medium to full body. In the past, I noted that the red tip burley works magic as a binder beneath a CT Broadleaf wrapper. Today, the burley binder is working well beneath a Brazil Baiano Claro wrapper, as well as with FL Sumatra and WLT PA Oscuro wrappers.

Although burley red tips make beautiful wrappers, the head tends to get too soggy. So I use it as a binder.

I've got about 5 pounds of Long Red coming out of the kiln in a few days, and look forward to blending it with the well aged burley red tips.

Funny you mentioned that. I just came across yesterday a pound of BB's One Sucker. I've been wanting to use it as a binder and use the PA as a wrapper coming up. I probably need to order some CT Broadleaf sometime soon, and I'm out of the Red tip from last year.

Just another note had some of Don's lemon aged a year. I just left it in the vacuum pack and it was yummy as well. In Canada its tough but wish I could order 50lbs and let it age it tastes better. Same with peter stockelbye 91 I would open a can 2 years later and wow what a difference compare to one that is fresh.

My price are cheap Everything is $12 a pound except the Dark Fire $15 and the CT broad leaf $18 .

Prices are cheaper in bulk .


If you want to buy new Bulk Burley , Burley red tips , Maryland 609 or Bright leaf , to lay it back and let age , now is the time to do so .
This would allow anyone with limited space to grow other tobacco that they would want to grow while these tobacco's age .

Hey there - here is an interesting proposal for anyone really....firstly - hey there from New Zealand!

My name is Glenn, we live in NZ and the price for tobacco has gone through the roof here.


It is illegal to import tobacco leaf here.


I am wanting to buy some leaf, I have researched this extensively and they estimate they only catch 10% of the leaf that is imported into NZ.


Would you (or anyone lol) consider sending tobacco, at my risk with NO branding on the boxes and not stating that it is tobacco leaf on paperwork?


If so I would be very excited.

Obviously we would do it in small lots to ensure we hedge our bets - maybe 5lb lots and initially just a few lots at a time to build trust.


Please do not think bad of us, we are good people who love smoking! the cost is simply ridiculous here - we are allowed to grow it and we think there is a huge opportunity here to educate smokers (20% of the country) into growing their own and selling them a complete start to finish kit comprising of everything from seed, growing instructions curing kilns/fermenting chambers, cutting, flavoring and filling options - the cost here per 50 gram tobacco is nearly $80NZD - it is literally destroying people financially and the government is pushing the price up quarterly.


Like I say, there is a huge opportunity here which we intend to pursue, we would like to play a little Russian roulette as well in seeing if leaf tobacco that is already processed does come through customs as if it does we would arrange numerous people to order frequently and bring in maybe a tonne a year, are you/anyone open to this proposition?
