It really is amazing how such a huge plant comes from such a tiny seed in just four months. If they had tobacco in the ancient world it would be the Parable of the Tobacco Seed.

Best of luck with your first season. You'll be hooked after this one.

If you put a general location in your Profile, we can better answer any future questions. Answers to curing questions especially will be dependent on location and typical weather.

Suggestion noted general location added. Typical weather lol out here is wait an hour and it will change lol. Do you guy wait till the seed cracks then individualize them or wait until there are leaves to put them in separate cells of a mini greenhouse

We have several methods that seem to work equally well. Use what works best for you.
Personally, I seed directly to the cells of 48 or 72 cell inserts. I seed more than is needed, then thin the plants down to one per cell once it is apparent that some are doing better than others. I try to leave the best seedlings. I thin down in about three waves. I'll thin down to around five per cell, three per cell, then one per cell. Sometimes I'll move a seedling around from one cell to another to end up with the best looking ones.

Hey fellow Albertan good to see another person sick of 110 dollar cartons lol. I just sowed my seeds that I ordered looked like a couple hundred seeds but they haven't popped yet so I am not sure how many will make it to the garden but I'll keep this blog every step of the way.so how many are you doing what's your favorite type/blend

Hey fellow Albertan! Best of luck. How many will you be growing this year?

IMG_20150407_143253_hdr.jpgIMG_20150407_143238_hdr.jpgUpdate newbie gro op 6 days in an just put under lights nice to see some green but I can see my spreading of the seed were not so even. It looking like it's going to be a pita to transfer them to individual cells of the trays open to suggestions should I wait a bit an let them bigger or start trying to move them before roots get all tangled togeter. Also remover the clear dome today to let more light in. All suggestions welcome

I would let them go a bit before moving. The big thing right now is for them not to dry out, they really don't have any roots yet. I would leave the domes on or barely open to retain moisture for a little longer. At about 1/2" tall they transplant easily.

Well this is my process so far I have 450 transplanted in singel cells as you can see I still have a bunch to transplant as I go I will pull weak ones and replace majority have 3 leaves and a visible start of a 4th this will be 2 weeks tommorow from spreading seeds and germinating. What do you think guys they look on track to you I am going to let the cells dry up a bit they are pretty moist

Looking good. You will probably be surprised how few need replacement.

Don't be alarmed if they don't do any growing for 5-7 days. After a transplant they just sit for a while and do nothing while the roots get going again.

Good luck with your first grow !
Make holes in the mugs/cups and let the water be sucked up from below.
I hate watering the seedlings fro above.

A busy guy! Good luck with your grow - as you grow vegetables, etc., tobacco will not be terribly different. It's in the nightshade family, so, tomatoes, potatoes...tobacco. Actually, I found the growing part the easiest. It's the curing that stumped me.
