I’ll keep this updated as I progress through the season. I’ve also got a bunch of seeds from NorthWoods so I’ll add those in later.
Started my plot for the new season Today. Daughter is here to help, so I will Keep her busy. About a month late this year, never mind. Should be finished planting tomorrow and that’ll be the 40 Virginia gold, my main crop. Just have to get the windbreak up, the watering system in and let them grow.

Not looking good. I think we where too late in planting them.

I am going to lop off the main stem and let a sucker become the main stem. I usually do this at the end of the season and it seems to work. We will see.

The stalk height as well as leaf size are always greater if you remove all suckers regularly, throughout the season, and allow only a single stalk.

Why remove the main stalk and let a sucker? Was the main stalk crooked or damaged or ?

The leaves were not as nicely shaped like they normally are. They all long and crinkled. I am going to try it on a few plants and see what happens. I'll keep the trial pics coming and see if I can find some pics from other years grows to see the difference.

Looks like they are catching up.

Update
We got our leaf trim today and my neighbour is going to bring his little tractor over and rotory hoe the patch for me.


I’ll let them recover overnight.
Get plot ready to plant out.
Meanwhile here’s an update on my main crop, Virginia gold.


Looks like I might get some nice leaves out of this lot.
My cardboard box yellowing experiment works nicely on the sucker’s I cut off my Virginia gold.


My first time kilning experiment has worked also. I used the leaves from the tops of

The plants that we pulled out to get the plot ready for the new season.
THERE WILL BE NO WASTE.

If you remove the suckers you would get some bigger leaves and less work with the curing

Spent the last month in hospital so far repair work is progressing well. Shud be back up an tuning in a week or two
