Hi and Merry Christmas!

Does anyone know if there are tubes that are the same diameter or gauge as packaged cigs? The standard cig is 7.9 mm and tubes are all 8.2. Also, filter length seem to run 15-18mm, but a commercial cig typically has a 25mm filter. I find it bizarre that no one seems to make a tube that is the same as a commercial cig. Other than that the whole leaf tobacco, blended well, provides a better flavor profile, but I like the draw characteristics of the commercial brand I smoke, American Spirit better.

i just recently started buying whole leaf and RYO as a pack of Spirits is $12 in Ct. (highest cig tax in the country).

Welcome to the forum. If you do some exploring you'll find a lot of helpful information here. There's a lot to.learn about tobacco and MYO.

Part of your problem is that each brand of tube is different in quality. None of them are the same diameter as boughten cigs that I know of. I smoked black AS. I've used Gambler, Mascotte Gold, and Shargio tubes, so far. The nozzle on injectors are made for the slightly larger diameter, so smaller diameter wouldn't work with them.

You need to try more brands of tubes because they do differ. There are many things that affect the draw of a cigarette, including the size of your shred, how moist your shred is, and how tightly you pack the tubes, not just the filter itself, or the tube diameter. Gambler tubes suck all around, and the paper tastes of chlorine. Shargio is better and can be bought in bulk for $3.20 per carton on Amazon with free Prime shipping. But Mascotte, from The Netherlands, rock. They are the best. The filters are shorter than normal but are micro perforated for better draw. Mascotte tubes are a big seller on EBay, when available from a US seller, but availability is sporadic. I don't have any problems with the draw using Mascotte or Shargio tubes. I'm actually considering investigating the costs of becoming an importer and setting up an EBay business to sell Mascotte.

Thanks Leslie, a great run down. I have tried Premier, Gambler, a brown tube, Emperator and Vera Cruz Elegante which so far are the best of these. I am aware of one tube that is the same diameter as a regular American Spirit or other brand. It’s a Rizla tube and requires either their branded specific injector with the same tip diameter as their tubes, or you can file down the tip on a standard injector (I use a powermatic 2) and use both kinds of tubes. The filter is 25mm in length, the same as your AS cig which I also smoke. Availability is sporadic, and they come from the UK (they are really into myo over there).

I still find it bizarre that the myo tube and injector industry as a whole uses a wider tube than store bought and the filters are shorter.

BTW, I find it refreshing to see other ladies enjoying their tobacco!

Many of the tubes in Canada are the same brands as the cigarette brands which are available. The intention is that you can buy your brand of tobacco, and tubes, and make cigarettes which are the same as tailor mades. So, I don't know, maybe look for brands of tube that are actually cigarette brands.

In Canada Players tubes are not the same diameter as Players tailor made cigarretes...nor are rothmans, pal mal or export. It is a huge difference. The volume of the tubes we buy is 20-25% larger than than the volume of a tailormade...that is quite a bit of tobacco...and it also means the little filters like Nic No don't fit very nicely. I don't think it is a conspiracy...I doubt any of the large manufactures are injecting tobacco into tubes.

That isn't really accurate. I did spend time weighing and comparing when I started with WLT...but I haven't done any math or comparison for volume between my own and tailor made, only weight. Now I'm really curious (not enough to go buy a pack of tailor made) I can't say how much of the weight difference is due to cut/moisture/density and other factors, all I know is that the big players can make a good cig with less tobacco than I can. With my PM2 injector I can make a cigarette with any amount of tobacco...0.6 grams would be loose, over 1g would be tight...the PM3 on the other hand is very particular about moisture and cut, the cigs fall between 0.9 and 1.1g. Tailor mades that I weighed use 0.6-0.8g but I only weighed the cheap ones that I would buy if not for the WLT option and I assumed that the filter and tube would weigh the same tailor made or roll your own but the filter on RYO tubes is indeed much shorter so I'm not so sure that assumption stands!
