Today, I ordered imidacloprid for the coming season:

Monterey LG 6274 Fruit Tree & Vegetable Systemic Soil Drench

It's becoming difficult to find.

Bob
Since I use imidacloprid on a relatively large scale, I generally purchase products with a higher percentage of active ingredients and save a lot of money. I either use the 75% powder or the 20% liquid. You can use either as a drench or foliar spray. It's also a termite treatment. A 27.5 ounce bottle of 20% concentrate should last you several years. I noticed prices as low as $23.25 with free shipping.

I apply it to the roots with the transplant water. It’s deadly on bees so I don’t use it on foliage or in the air. We used to keep honey bees but don’t any longer. Our neighbors do.

The grasshoppers are still laughing about my imidacloprid. I try not to let their scornful laughter bother me--too much.

The most effective way to minimize grasshopper damage on tobacco is to keep any nearby grass cut short. They are resistant to typical doses of most tobacco-safe insecticides, including imidacloprid.

I don't use it on tobacco after one transplant drench. In other crops, such as corn, I low pressure spray(semi-dribble) it in furrow over the seed before closing the row. It can last as long as a month in corn and can transfer to the pollen if used later than at planting. I drench my fruit trees after petal fall to avoid pollen transfer. I also have a neighbor beekeeper that lives about a half mile away.

Ordered this on-line from Lowe's. Delivery is only $6. (Cost for me to drive there ~$4)
8-Quart Perlite
Unit Price $4.98
QTY 1

Sphagnum Peat Moss 8-Quart
Unit Price $4.98
QTY 3

SG VERMICULITE 8-Quart
Unit Price $4.98
QTY 1

Subtotal $24.90
Shipping/Delivery $5.99
Total Tax $1.32
Order Total $32.21

I found it rather crazy the pricing for these things on Amazon, Walmart, Home Depo. One vendor offered free shipping on Vermiculite 8-quarts, for a price of ~$15.

Did you get your ticket?
Last year, I obtained two tickets for my grandchildren. I'm officially too damn old to go to Mars myself. [Of course, the sundial is over 2700 years old.]

Bob

EDIT: It may have been two years ago that I got those tickets. I'm officially too damn old to remember!

They always lie! Punxsutawney Phil supposedly saw his shadow today. That means 6 more weeks of winter. But the photos of lying Phil show an overcast sky, with snow falling. Shadow? Really?

There's actually melted snow on the camera lens.

I assume this is why its called "meteorology" and not "meteoronomy."
