Your grow this year has been inspiring, I'm waiting impatiently for my Glessenor to ripen up that much before I harvest. Also might scout for thrown out kiddie pools this winter.
It is a new experience. I've never had the ability to spin my plants around before for sun exposure. I notice the south side ripens quicker, so I can spin the pools 90 degrees each time the soil is dry and that new south side catches up and ripens faster than the other sides. I'm also priming top down, and outer leaf first. My upper leaf is ripe first, when I prime it, the exposed leaf begins to ripen and due to the crowding, the outer leaf is primed before the inner leaf, then the newly exposed inner leaf ripens. I never expected that. No problem, it's just different. Previously. I primed from bottom up.

Here is a photo of my new priming pattern. I'm priming each leaf when ripe regardless of position. You can see some of the leaves are half ripe, the green part was shaded by upper leaf.

This leaf was partially shaded by upper leaf that I just primed. The ripe part was exposed to sun.

Mine is a 4'. Will hold 11 grow bags. I only got 10 into the first two pools because I planted the bags then procrastinated for awhile. The bags expanded before I got them in the pools. I got 11 in the third pool, but planted and put them in the pool immediately before the soil settled and the bags expanded.

The kiddie pool approach is really interesting. I imagine the periodic rotation by 90° is why the bare stalks can be seen to splay outward from the center. The leaf maturation sequence is also unique.

Bob

The splaying out began the night of a heavy thunderstorm. The soil was wet, leaf was heavy, and the outer stalks were trying to fall over. I held them all together with the yellow surveyors marking tape you can see in the photos. I agree the sun contributed. I failed to rotate for awhile and the south side plants were leaning toward the sun more than others.

The third pool was planted a couple of weeks or more later than the first two pools, the third pool was fertilized more than the first two pools because I was able to use the first two pools to determine how much I should have fertilized. I did a better job with fertilizer on the third pool. All three pools ripened top down. They ripen faster as previously shaded leaf is exposed to sun. I can visibly see the changes in a couple of days. It took me a little while to catch on, some of the lower leaf from the first two pools are very thin and light because I was trying to prime the old way and it confused me. I thought something was wrong but it wasn't, it's just different.

I dissected a grow bag from a plant that was recently harvested.
No root spiraling. The roots grow through the bag.
I strictly bottom water with the exception of the occasional rain.
I let the soil dry between waterings, sometimes to the point of the plants showing distress.
Water soluble Miracle Grow is mixed in a bucket and pumped into the pools.

@Knucklehead who makes your grow bags?
I used Growneer brand from Walmart (I think recommended by @wruk53) but I no longer see the brand there, they looked just like these:

I've also ordered from Amazon. All of the ones I have used are a non-woven fabric that look and feel like thick felt. I did not reuse the bags from last year but intend to this year. The manufacturers say you can get three years or more out of them and can be machine washed. I may try to hand wash mine in one of the kiddie pools with a bit of chlorox.

Two days of sun ripened the top leaves and south facing outer leaves enough for another priming.

IMG_1025.jpeg

The primed leaves on the left side of the photo were facing south for two days. They are currently facing west in the photo after a 90 degree rotation. The leaves in the center are now facing south after the rotation. We will see how quickly they ripen now.

This view shows the three sides that did not face south for two days. They aren't quite ripe yet, and neither are the inner leaves.
