Hey, I'm Haroon from the UK. I started growing my own tobacco last year for cigars. It was OK I guess, I grew habano 2000 but I think I rushed it and it didn't come out as I wanted. This year I will grow corojo 99, criollo 98 and piloto cubano. I have realised alot of my mistakes eg. My soil was rubbish and to hard after it rained so this year I've bought extra soil to put into the garden with some perlite and a little sand just to help with drainage. Tobacco in the UK is getting to ridiculous prices plus customs/VAT taxes are even worse when ordering internationally. I'm hoping to grow some better leaves this year.

Hello and welcome from the UK. You're right, the weather can be a struggle but you can successfully grow in large pots. I use black buckets for mine, easy to maintain conditions and it keeps the slugs away.
I'm gonna try and grow around 40 plants in the garden and then approx 10 plants in big 15-20 litre pots. But your right the slugs here are savages. I transplanted 38 plants into the garden last year and they ruthlessly ate through 30 of them! Also got alot of slugs pellets too this year.

Hi welcome

What method did you use to cure and finish your tobacco?

Hi, I air cured in a homemade shed which was OK. The leaves cured nicely. But I fermented them in zip lock bags by putting the tobacco bags in water in my crockpot at temps between 120-128 Fahrenheit for around 5-6 weeks.

How did you keep the temperature in the Crockpot constant? I cured mine in 2 different sections of my shed. One worked the other didn't

I've just started the germination 2 days ago and I will transplant the seedlings into small pots in the next 2 weeks and then I'm on holiday for 3 weeks until 19th May so hoping to transplant outside on 20th may.
That's forward planning! Should be well past your lost frost date by then unless your up in the Hebrides or somewhere!

Yeah
You should start a grow blog as it would be interesting to see more UK based ones. I'm gonna set one up when my seedlings are ready to go out
Yeah i was thinking the same thing. I will wait a few days until the seeds have germinated and I can see some sprouts and then start blogging
