For basic instructions on growing tobacco, read the New Growers' FAQ, linked in the menu bar. Since germination is typically begun 6 to 8 weeks prior to your average date of last frost, it would be difficult to grow and color-cure a decent outdoor crop for 2025. But it is a good time to read-up, and think about the varieties for which you may wish to acquire seed now or in the fall, for starting in March 2026.

Tobacco maturation time is traditionally measured from transplant to maturity, and is between 48 to 70 days for most varieties. Tobacco is not directly seeded to the ground in most settings today. The time from germination to transplant (often started indoors or within a greenhouse) is usually 45 to 60 days. Beyond the harvest, your weather also needs to be conducive to air-curing, unless you undertake one of the more labor-intensive, "hands-on" methods of curing.
