I was required to leave my grow/harvest for the last 10 days due to a family emergency.
(Everyone/everything is fine).
I came back to a cellar full of moldy plants.
Someone in the building decided my fan didn’t need to be running all the time.
I haven’t made it to the garden house yet (tomorrow). I’m not expecting anything better. My emergency house sitter decided since it was raining every other day, my plants require no attention, and he forgot about airing out the garden house, where the bulk of my outside grow is stalk curing.
I’m honestly thinking about giving up.

I experienced a similar situation when my dehumidifier in the basement broke down during a period of high humidity. No warning, it just conked out. A large portion of my leaf molded. I replaced the bad dehumidifier with two new ones to give me some leeway. It's heartbreaking and I can certainly sympathise.

Oh, I'm really sorry, but don't give up. Thank you for sharing it, it makes me think and try to prevent it from happening here. It can happen to anyone, and it happens quickly too.

I feel your pain. I have same sort of problem since I try to balance with work and too little time for my gardens. Summer 2023 my few plants that were drying became moldy and I got zero tobacco for the whole summer.
Just keep on growing tobacco and forget the moldy plants.

A lot of unforeseen things can happen from seed sowing to finished cured and dried tobacco. But maybe that's what makes it so exciting. Right now I'm fighting the storm here, in a few days over 20 plants have blown down, and there are still strong winds here. But thank goodness the tobacco is basically ready for harvest. But a lot of unplanned work right now.
Compost pile Drosgi Black-blue got overgrown, suckered like mad, and was attacked by slugs.
However, the oldest leaves seem to be showing a sign of maturity similar to Hyang Cho- a speckled pattern on the leaves.
These were stalk harvested.

The recently planted Yellow-109 was flowering, so it was topped.
As was the Vallejano and single Small Stalk Black Mammoth.
The Vallejano is suckering as bad as a rustica, and is already showing signs of infection that hit the rest of the crop.

Happy that you're able to salvage something from all the hard work.
The only info on resistance that I can locate for Virginia Gold is on ARS-GRIN, which indicates "root rot resistance".

Sadly, Small Stalk Black Mammoth is also susceptible to the disease my garden ground harbors…it looks like a ripe leaf, but was topped yesterday. The veins will start darkening, then the leaf will die/turn bronze, and shrink. No idea what this does to flavor or nicotine.
