Tobaccos native to North America

Information on any wild or cultivated tobaccos growing and grown in North America prior to Euorpean discovery of the Americas. Even such plants smoked as tobacco but not a nicotiana would be interesting. My friend and neighbor grew up smoking rabbit tobacco ,aplant with a leaf similar to a willow leaf. I looked it up and its not a tobacco at all. Theres a lot of info on the web, but its hard to verify. Are all native North American tobaccos considered Rustica?

Just a couple of days ago, I read what tobacco replaced the the first tobacco the settlers where growing. I'll be damned if I can remember now, but I'll find it.

When I saw your initial question, Tim, I went to my computer files to find the source of a book on the subject that I recalled having read. What I discovered was a set of my notes used for creating a post on the subject. What? So, I ran a search on FTT to see if I had really written a post on pre-Columbian tobacco. Sure enough, I had, and I'd also forgotten that I had. They say old age doesn't last too long.

LOL, Im easily amused but that was downright funny. I am younger but must be not far behind because I remember reading that post, the graphics gave it away.
