93rdCanadian Grow Log 2013

Well here goes nothing my first foray into tobacco growing. This year I will be starting small as my tobacco consumption is not very large and my available seed starting space is quite limited. I plan to do two harvests of 48 plants each. Ill keep this post updated as I progress through the growing stages and will be adding pictures of my plot when the snow melts. Seeds will be started in a propogator and grown under 2 32W 5400k(cool white) fluorescent tubes for a total of 64W and 10k lumens.

Varieties:
Xanthi Yaka 18A - Donated by SmokeStack
Black Sea Samsun - Donated by SmokeStack
Virginia - Not sure of specific variety just labeled as Virginia
Pensylvania Red
Florida Sumatra
Yellow Twist Bud

March 1st 2013 - All seeds put into propogator for germination.

Germination thus far has been quite good. Virginia, Xanthi Yaka 18A, BSS, Pen. Red have germinated well enough to produce enough seedlings so far. YTB, and Florida Sumatra are taking a little longer to germinate then the others. The tiny seedlings are surprisingly easy to transplant at this stage using tweezers to pickup a clump of soil and the seedling. Also to correct my first post the total lumen count is 4600 and not 10000.

you have germination,

it's all downhill from there,

looking at all this germination, makes me want to start my seedlings,

When do you guys start your seedlings down there? I thought you would have seedlings by now to get 6-8 weeks of growth on them before you put them out? My last frost is the start of May so I'm trying to get my seedlings in the ground with a good start. I hope your grow goes well and I will be lurking on many members grow blogs as the season goes on.

looking a little yellow and muddy there (compared to other germinations). You may be overwatering a bit.

Yeah I thought I might be watering too much. I will let them be for a few days to let the water evaporate or be consumed by the plants.
