Finally, yesterday I planted the first 60 plants, the remaining 60 will be planted today. Under each plant I put some potting soil, chicken manure (pellets) and epsom salt (magnesium sulfate).

And like the previous 4 years, I have drip hoses in the bottom, but new for this year is that I have connected an irrigation timer to each hose.

I thought (with the owners' permission), I would share some photos from a tobacco farm far up in Norway, in Trondheim. It is run by acquaintances of mine.
This year is the fifth year that they have been growing tobacco, and this week they are planting out about 40,000 plants. They have it as their main occupation, and only manufacture snus from their tobacco under the brand name "Snusbonden". So it certainly works to grow tobacco up here in the north :)

Amazing operation!
Do you know (or will they share) what varieties they grow?

4 weeks (28 days) since transplanting (Sobolchskii 33, burley)

After a long, cold and very windy spring and early summer, the tobacco has finally started to grow a little, however the stems are worryingly thin and weak.
As a test, this year I have sown peas around/between 20 of my plants to see if it can provide a little extra nitrogen to the plants.

Over the past week the plants have really started to grow. According to the description the plants mature after 50-60 days and that seems to be true as most of the plants now have flower buds. The leaves seem to be getting really nice and big. Unfortunately the stems are quite frail and I am worried about the strong winds we often have here. No snail infestations or attacks from other insects or animals, nor any diseases or discolored leaves

Last week's heat has really made the plants explode in growth. I expect at least half of the plants to flower within a week and then top all the plants, then harvest after about 10-14 days. I will fertilize one last time today.
