Opened the two cans from my previous post. The larger can was just RYO and not worth talking about. The smaller can had two base blends,
one oriental blend and a simple blend of Virginia and Dark-fired.


The cakes from the smaller can just fit inside a pint jar.



Looks like a success and tastes like a very smooth bad blend. lol


Here is the latest to get pressed with a total of 587 grams in a quart size paint can pressed at about 400lb. Between now and when this gets opened I
have three other soup cans that will reach the month mark. These have some better blends and of course great blends in the quart can.

Ive been opening these can-plugs and found a moldy one. I made notes (not sure why) after this one was pressed that I needed less moisture and less pressure. Because of concern I opened the later two including the quart can and fortunately found no mold. It appears that I did use less pressure and moisture on the later two.

My observation is that too much pressure pushes everything out of the lamina especially on the more delicate leaf. The blend becomes muted and bland IMHO.

I did make a cut in the quart can then realized that I can pull on the folds of parchment and the plugs came right out. Ill try this again and take pictures this time. Diameter of the plug/cake is 4.06" and Im hoping that these containers Bob likes, 16 oz. Clear Polystyrene Straight-Sided Thick-Walled Round Jar, are wide enough inside as this would be a perfect combination for long-term storage.

Im tempted to get one for shits and giggles but Im holding out for a Microplane herb grinder. They were 30, now 20......do I hear 10? Maybe? lol

What is the diameter of the pressed plug?
Im wondering if they would stack in an eight ounce Mason jar. The opening on those is approx 2.3".

If you are looking for cheap landscaper's cloth here is another great deal. 4x250ft 5oz cloth for $12.99, only one left.
Product review mentions a missing strand that leaves a gap along the length of the roll so Im assuming this is a returned item similar the noodle press.

If you are looking for cheap landscaper's cloth here is another great deal. 4x250ft 5oz cloth for $12.99, only one left.
Product review mentions a missing strand that leaves a gap along the length of the roll so Im assuming this is a returned item similar the noodle press.

This roll of landscape cloth came in and its just fine. Some strands are more transparent but there are no gaps in the weave. The defect is that the three green lines which are spaced 12" apart are off-center by about three inches. Its a hell of a deal and there is still one available.

BTW- anyone know of a cheap source for unbleached and unsewn cheap canvas cloth? Did I mention Im looking for cheap?

The Shop Fox is a beautiful press. (It seems awfully clean for a tobacco tool.) We have so many everyday objects that regularly arrive in our homes, like your tin can, that can inspire repurposing.
