The newest WLT sampler came with the ripe Virginia instead of the red. Anyone got any blends that call for ripe?

I tried it in a cob and like it a lot, sweet and kinda malty. Did have a hint of bite but nothing that wasn't gone after a few minutes and a swig of water. I went back and immediately mixed up an ounce of twice as bright. If that's as good as I suspect it will be I'll probably mix up more tomorrow and put away an ounce or two in a carotte.

I hope it's not too late to revive this thread. Reading this has me quite excited to both grow some of my own, and also place a WLT order!

How have you been liking your blends over time? Any thoughts on long term pressing, with or without heat? Any mold issues pop up at all?

Thanks @ProZachJ! I'm gaining a lot of good info on your various threads!

Blends that have landed in my permanent rotation.

Smyrna Bright
Burley Baby
Sipahi
Twice as Bright
Pearl of Shibam
American Turkish

As this forum advised, basically the longer I let them age the better they taste so I continue to back store my favorites. That goes for pressing or not.

I still haven't opened the carrotte of Sipahi shown above! I'll let you know on the one year anniversary.

The only mold issues I've run into is when I've jarred up something that I pressed in very high case without letting it air out.

This is great!

Not a pipe smoker now, but I hope you’ll detail your recipes as you finalize them (Twice as Bright, for one)…and you’ve certainly sold me on a sampler, it calls out to the mad scientist in me

The Sipahi that had been in the carotte for one year was opened on its birthday. The smell was fabulous but the flavor was a bit muted when smoked as is. I mixed it 50/50 with some unfermented Sipahi and the result is glorious. Continuing to like doing a single blend half fermented and half not.

Twice as bright is a recipe from @deluxestogies book.

I've tweaked it a bit using a blend of 2/4 Ripe, 1/4 Red, 1/4 Bright Virginia because I didn't have access to double bright. The Virginia blend is then used in ratio with St James Perique that is something between 2:1 and 5:3.

The result looks something like this
