[ot]Thanks. I hope to pop in more often but there are a lot of projects lined up. Brewing, knife making, home and auto repairs, errands for my mother, making custom canes, and a new addition - fabricating parts for a titanium watch case to house a NOS swiss automatic movement for mom. She is a bit sensitive to some metals and the price of a watch to suit her taste is ridiculous. Time to go grab some leaf from the barn and start a new batch of tobacco. [/ot]

I recently shredded some Bolivian Black a few weeks out of the kiln. Highly recommended for full flavor cigarette blends. Here is one that came out good:

4g Virginia Bright Leaf
2g TN 90 Burley
2g Bursa
2g Bolivian Black
1g One Sucker

Nice full flavor blend for the cold weather. If you want it extra full flavor, add another gram of One Sucker.

I just smoked an unfiltered rollup of Bolivian Black Criollo. Surprisingly smooth. Tastes like dark coffee. Definitely does remind me of black Argentinian cigarettes. It's pretty high in nicotine, too.

Thanks for that DonH, I like hearing about how the different strains taste. The forum is often more about production, great to hear about the consumption aspects. Keep'em coming.

I just happen to be smoking a pipe right now that is filled with air-cured, unkilned Bolivia Criollo Black. It's lighter-colored mid-stalk leaf. It's been fairly edgy until now. So that's about 6 months of age to tame it. I do notice the nicotine.

The batch of Black Cavendish that I made from this variety was the strongest that I've ever tasted. I've been using that as a minor condiment (~5% max) for pipe blending, to round out the flavor.

I grew quite a bit of silver river and Bolivia Criollo Black last year as Sky said they are very similar in growth characteristics and smoke, not sure what the crack is with silver river as far as flowering goes seems to have its own mind on this front.
i think you could at a pinch smoke both pretty much as soon as they air cure out but as you say Bob with some aging they calm down a bit, i have some of each now at about 6 months old and they are a very nice smoke.
i had some silver river that was ripening a bit to early so i gave them so epsom salts to drink as i do with my tomatoes if they look a little yellow and i think they have more of that menthol flavor that river is meant to have ?.

I've been playing around with blending Bolivian Black. I tried a blend of half Bolivian and half Samsun. It was amazing. Very smooth, dark yet mild flavor is the best I could describe it.

I then added some Bright leaf (in a 1:1:1 ratio). Too mild, so I added a pinch of One Sucker and that second blend ended up pretty good.

Don, the more you write, the more I am looking forward to having the Bolivian in my grow this year.

I just smoked another Bolivian Black puro, now six months after and it's smoothed out quite a bit. Actually tastes really good on its own.

Can many cigar varieties be used for cigarettes? I'm not much of a cigar roller and although I will try rolling a few, I think I might use all the cigar baccy in my cig blend (refer to my 2014 grow blog for varieties). When I was in cuba, there was a cigarette I got called Romeo & Juliet and even though they were filltered it was strong as hell and tasted like a cigar. THAT is not what I am looking for out of my cigar baccy but if it can be made somewhat mellow, I think it might be a good blend with my other baccy. Thoughts?

A number of Havana varieties produce lower leaf (bottom half of the plant) that is light in color, and mild. These often have little or no "cigar" aroma. I've used kilned bottom leaf Machu Picchu Havana for pipe blending.

Besides Don's Habana 2000 and Piloto Cubano Seco, do you think Sacred Corn-planter would be mellow, Bob?

My Havannah, after kilning, was good in a cigarette blend.

Alright, sounds good. Gonna try some straight up after kilning and make a decision on how or if I need to blend it. Bob, the PA-Swarr hibshman was a heck of a fantastic producer in a tight grow. Some leaves were up to 28" long and I got lots of em'.

I should add, it took a few weeks rest after the kiln to get good. Out of the gate, was like chewing an alfalfa cube. But when it turned good, the change was so dramatic I would have thought someone switched the bags.
