Please add your Criollo 98 reviews here. These reviews should include the fillers and wrapper.

From a customer who is not a forum member....yet..

Smoking a stick of your Criollo 98...Wow! This stuff is excellent!

Not smoked the others I ordered, will wrap a few tomorrow night. Great score on this tobacco, tastes like it might be from the Jalapa area, not Esteli.

Either way I'll be getting more.

Thanks a "bunch"...

I like those leaves a lot. I rolled a puro of Criollo 98: Seco, Viso, Ligero (just a strip), and the Criollo Maduro wrapper. The taste was fantastic. Earthy and peppery, tons of flavor. Good stuff.

Thanks for the review.

The reason I'm trying to pry the reviews out is...the Criollo 98 (Seco, Viso, Ligero, wrapper) is a product line I'm considering adding to the inventory.

I have a question about some of the other samples. What does RDA stand for in the Ecuador RDA? And what does the x2 and 02 mean?

It's an extremely worthy consideration. The criollo 98 I tried was exceptionaly great flavor. As a wrapper or binder. A definite thumbs up. It has a real noteworthy flavor I was trying to explain to Deluxestogie the subtle differences from some of the upper Bezuki wrapper leaves to compare. It's hard for me.

I just finished smoking a cigar made up of one Criollo 98 Ligero leaf, one Criollo 98 Seco leaf, and the Ecuador Shade binder/wrapper. It has a really nice flavor, burned very well, and makes a great change of pace smoke to work in with the Nicaraguan.

Just finished a 55X6" of Criollo 98, 1 leaf seco, 1 leaf viso, 1/2 leaf ligero and the Criollo 98 maduro wrapper. Not too bad, smoked good, I like the way the wrapper smells as it burns, nice smell in the room too. I would say it was a medium bodied cigar. Tasted good, peppery start mellowing into a warm nuttiness but I had trouble getting a full volume of the flavors. I rolled two the same, I'll give the other a go another day.

The one I rolled I cut in half. I just smoked the other half tonight. Excellent! But what made me more happy, was it smoked the best of any I rolled before then. I think I used the Accordion method for this one, judging by the timing.

But what made it better was keeping it in the humidor for a week. That got the case of the filler and the wrapper evened out, so it burned well. I found when I get impatient and smoke them too soon, the filler burns too quick and hot and the wrapper too slow. This one burned evenly, the smoke was cool down to the last inch and half, even though I smoked it kind of quickly, and the ash was white.

Great pics. If only there were a way to capture the aroma.

Bob

Have you tried the Criollo 98 yet? I have some wrapper coming up in case, I've reviewed the filler but this will be my first puro with the filler and wrapper. I'd love to see your review.

Howdy Y'all!

Happy Fathers Day! I was a little surprised by the flavor after smoking Kristoff, Alec Bradley among other Criollo wrapped cigars. I excepted it to have a heavier spice, but it was quite nice. It had a flavor of leather, cedar and a hint of cherry to add a little sweetness. I just used the Nicaraguan Habano as the filler and binder.

I also wrapper a couple with the Ecuadoran CT Shade. It also tasted different from the CT Shade I have grown, but made for a great smoke. I also just used the Habano for the filler and binder. I think adding some Penn Red and Havana leaf would be the ultimate!

After I mist the leaves on some of my wrappers and letting set for a short while I roll with a 1" dowel to flatten any prominet veins that take longer to moisten and flex. It seems to help for me. They come out much smoother with less chance of tear or holes to allow a single wrapper.

I rolled 3 stogies with the criollo 98 wrapper, 1 leaf Dominican ligero, 2 leaves Cuban piloto seco, 1 leaf Nicaraguan viso, P.A. Binder, smoked nice, medium body, some pepper, notes, gonna let them rest a while and see how much better they get. But I really like the criollo 98 wrapper much better than the Ecuadorean Connecticut shade. Not as smooth but better taste. Got some rolled with Nicaraguan ligero too but haven't smoked them yet, will let you know.
