Are there any varieties that are particulary resistant to drought?

Thank you!

I know that most orientals, in general are grown in the arid regions of Europe. They should be able to get by with less water than others.

Most tobacco grows better without wet feet....

I water my plants one time when they are first set and if they're lucky, I'll give them a drink if it doesn't rain for 10 days. I'd bet I haven't spread more than 150 gallons of water on 20,000 plants over the past 3 years.

IndianJoe...is your avatar a wash tub full of skinned catfish?

So THAT's what I've been doing wrong. I have a small natural water source and I was watering quite a lot.
This year I guess I'll back off to once a week or so.

From what I can tell most tobacco is drought resistant. We grew tobacco and tomatoes last year. we woudl water the tomatoes twice a day while the tobacco was watered every other day (growing in containers) IF the tobacco had been in the ground it might have gone a week with no water.

John,
deep fried in peanut oil,, wow. However, I have tried a few in "catfish" cakes this year, great! You prepare them like crabcakes and chunkum to fry in that peanut oil.

How much drought? Most tobacco grows better without wet feet....

The most resistant varieties to drought are Izmir varieties. Well, how much drought ? 4 kilograms per square meter for a month (in August with an average temperature of 29 C) ( 4 liters per m2 ). By American scale, it should be about 13 fl oz per square foot in August with an average temperature of 83 F.
