That Ebola is some scary stuff. Now just 90 miles away from me. 90 miles and our gov't to keep me safe. Ooops.

that isn't a government hospital so you better blame the private business for taking them in. the gov didn't have anything to do with that.

its still not quite clear who authorized the use of the experimental drug, which was developed in collaboration with the gov mind you. also, this is gmo tobacco we're talking about. the drug isn't derived from tobacco, just produced in tobacco (im thinking probably N. benthamiana).

You're right they went to Emory. I just assumed they would be taken to the CDC. Still just 90 miles.

an AP piece on my local news website today on tobacco "pharming":
http://www.wral.com/ebola-puts-focus-on-drugs-made-in-tobacco-plants/13895383/

I don't appreciate that they called it a "special strain of tobacco", when its a different and wholly incompatible species (N. benthamiana), but the average reporter isn't well versed in science, specifically biology. it's super light on details but at least they are making an attempt to bring it to the public's attention.

if you look at the slide show, Maggie was previously the lab tech in the lab where I did my masters work.

Yes. Thin on details. A similar story this morning was "fluffed" with four beautiful photos of N. tabacum in the field, with morning dew glistening. I guess that's no worse than headlines like, "Baffled Boffins Bio Brew Beats Ebola."
