What a great read, it inspired me to open the humidor and light up a Connecticut Broadleaf cigar that Big Bonner rolled before my eyes while I was visiting a while back. What a marvelous smoke! I'm now jazzed to try growing it next year.

Whats interesting for me is the soil that they mound up around the stem, wonder if they do that all the time, or just on very wet seasons?

Southern planter, hoped you enjoyed the Big Bonner cigar. I will also look at my plantings next season, and adjust my Con B/ leaf quantities, definitely plant more of those. I see FX Smith use a lot of C B/ leaf for the Wrappers, binders and fillers in their cigars.

Ben, i mounded dirt around a portion of my plants last year just because ithought they needed morestem support. To my surprise, within two weeks the mounded plants were notably outgrowing the UN-mounded ones.

Interesting, will do mine the weekend, my plants can do with a bit of a boost, un even in the row, some of them yellow, not a lack of fertilizers. Gave it a foliar spray yesterday (mulispray and Magnesium Sulphate)
