I posted a video about this type of tombac preparation, but I can say that it's not easy.

I watched the video several times, I think I understand what they are trying to do. They are sealing a very moist "cigar" onto a ceramic base, piercing it with a small rod and then putting the charcoal on top.(??) Is the "cigar" all made from flavored tombac or do they use different varieties of tobacco? Whatever the details, this is an interesting way to consume tobacco.

That tobacco in the video is pure tombac (no flavors) and the liquid in the video is straight water. Its bowl is designed for wrapping tombac (cigar).
To smoke flavored tombac concave bowls are used. If you use flavored tombac (contains sugars, glycerin, etc) for wrapping, tobacco will ignite :)

Thank you! I think I'm beginning to understand.

Me too! I've been using about equal parts of tobacco, fruit and Steen's cane syrup then add about 20% lemon juice. I haven't been using glycerin and I didn't like using honey. I've tried using apple, pineapple, prune and fig, the only one that seems to come through is the fig. The next change up will be trying Bead Molasses, no mention of sulfur, I got a small jar in the foreign food section with the Asian food. I've been starting out with 10 grams of tobacco per batch, so I have some leftovers that are getting to be almost two weeks old in the refrigerator. I think I'll try adding some glycerin to those as an easy experiment.

In all it's been interesting and fun, as long as you don't get it too hot, it makes a very pleasant smoke. The ash tray around the bowl is there for a reason, it's kind of messy.

I tried putting Glycerin in a mix last night. It does make more "smoke" and seems to change how well the heat is transferred from the charcoal. Otherwise, it doesn't add much to the flavor. I don't miss Glycerin in my cigarettes, I don't think I'll miss it in the Hooka.

I think to much throws the flavor off but makes it smoke better. does yours drain out of the bowl and on to the stem if you let it sit after you get through smoke'in?

The store bought was pretty bad (to me), I think it was double apple. When mine is done, it's hard, black and crispy. I've been looking around for one of those flat bowls to try the Tombac un-flavored, like where they put a cigar on it. If I have to make some, this is how mine attaches. Does yours attach the same way?

I'm trying out the Bead Molasses, I can taste the Molasses more, it overpowers the fig. I might try it again without any fruit to see how it "burns". I might also try cutting it with some honey.

I'm cutting my Tombac into 1/8-1/4 inch flakes. Are you cutting yours finer than that?

If I find or make some bowls, I'll send you a couple.

You can use your concave bowls for wrapping pure tombac, I think there won't be any smoking problem with them. There will be a little tobacco waste at the bottom because the depth of the concave bowl may not let tobacco burning properly.
