Do you mean Latakia? If so that's a result of a special fire curing process not a particular variety, although they use some kind of Turkish.

Actualy all are correct. Lattaquie is not only a fire cured with oak and pine from rising of the smoke and gentle heat. The seed is of the peasant Turkish form. It comes from the east Syrian Co. It is generaly mixed in Engish pipe tobacco. It has a smooth sweet flavor w/a hint off wood in it. too strong of aroma in the air ,better mixed.

HINT of wood? Hmmm...You can smell the wood through the vapor proof bags of my 17 year old Latakia.

Where did you find Latakia seeds? From what I've heard no one is sure exactly what variety is used. Also, if you cure it normally it won't taste anything like Latakia. The flavor comes from whatever wood they use to fire cure it. You're better off buying some whole leaf Latakia from www.wholeleaftobacco.com
Here's some info from a Tobacco Co. Bob dug up after extensive research. It lists some of the woods used in the curing, and in one place does actually call Latakia a variety of N. Tobaccum. http://wholeleaftobaccollc.com/foru...ish-American-Tobacco-Co-Ltd-(released-papers)
It is possible that the seller actually scored some seed from a Latakia producer, but I would think the chance to be slim. Information on the variety and process is extremely scarce as I'm sure the producers guard their secrets to keep production local. I would be interested to see the plant your seed produce and if you can somehow duplicate the process. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Give it a shot and keep us posted. Who knows, you may stumble onto the Holy Grail and be forever known on the forum as Sir Percival of Latakia.

I dont use the net for seed- Just OLD TIMERS.. And Yes I got gen. LATAKIA seed . Small amount , but LATAKIA.
How about some details for the upcoming FTT newsletter? This could be interesting. There's no timer like an old timer.

Let Me corect Myself. I do order some comon seed on line if I know the seller. Now as for the seed I got is a real generous share to Me. And would love to detail what LATAKIA is about in the FTT news letter.

The terms used for LATAKIA, LATTAKIA,LATAQUIA, al- Ladhiqiya ect. Are all correct in where as of origin. It is of the Ottoma Turks befor WW1. The tobaccos used are of all of the Turish as well as many of the tobaccos in the region. And yes, almost imposible to get the actual seed of Latakia.Why? the gov. there is as bad as Cuba in the export of the tobacco cured there as well as the seed prior to the 70's.
How I retained some actual seed was by an old gent. that by conversation gave Me the seed. He is from southern Russia area and went to Lattakia where He got the seed from an old friend. Thus gen. shared some with Me. He told me how LATAKIA is made old school..... WANA know what He said in the conversation?????

I want some (NONE HERE) last one I got was in the grill. Kept it as well. Game warden charged Me 25 bucks. Anyway He told Me the wood and fire is. native oak, pine and shit along with the food and hot drink in the smoke. (shit as in dung from cattle) for heat..
