Looks like the kind of snow you can't move in. That kind of snow would even shut down everything around here for a few days...and we're used to 12" -20" snow events.

Several years ago, there was a "lake effect" snowstorm that dropped 36" in 2 days. Exactly one week later, there was an identical storm that dropped another 36". Nobody was prepared for either one.

Before the days of automobiles, most farmers prayed for heavy snow in the winter. That would allow their horses to pull staggering loads on sleds--much heavier loads than the horses could pull on a wagon along the muddy roads. Many farms owned a huge roller (12 feet in diameter) that was used to flatten and pack the snow onto the roads, making travel even easier. It was a sad day when the packed snow finally melted in the spring, before it warmed enough to do any serious work in the fields.

Another irony from the olden days is they used to "water" the roads during times of below freezing temperatures. This was primarily done in cities with brick or cobbled stone roads. Horses pulling a sleigh over ice was a lot easier than dragging it over a dry surface.

Funny line I've read before...I think it's a book title "The good old days....they were terrible"

Funny thought. Water trucks icing the roads today. Imagine the reaction to that.

We had a heat wave of 52• air that melted all our snow up here in the "frigid" north. No idea how that warm of an airstream got up here tho lol.
