No need to really. Tobacco is such a sponge that just putting some in a container with the liquids/flavors of your choice and that tobacco will suck it right in.

Makes sense. Would it be similar to some of the compression methods like brick stack or plug type of chew, or am I missing something by putting it under vacuum and taking out the majority of the oxygen?

To age, tobacco, even dead, brown tobacco, uses a pair of enzymes that are classed as oxidases. They require some oxygen present in order to move the oxidation reaction.

Based on the procedure I'm using to prepare this movie prop tobacco...casing should not contain acylglycerols (glycerine) as it somehow inhibits the leafs ability to absorb water.

I'm using a 50% propylene glycol to 50% water mix and it takes about two days for the leaf (Burley) to become fully pliable when completely submerged in the solution. Spraying the same solution on "crisp dry" leaf is almost completely ineffective...it just sits on the surface of the leaf and does not penetrate.

Using the glycerine at recommended rates for casing is much lower levels and would likely increase casing absorbability, but a slight inhibiting factor would remain. I'd recommend introducing the glycerine in a step after the initial casing.

Pepsi Chew
25 grams burley
1 Can Pepsi
1 Tbs. Sugar
Cooked non tobacco ingredients until syrup consistency
Add burley stir and cook for 4-5 minutes
Came out OK. Not too sweet. My favorite so far.

This one sounds very interesting. I would like to know how the Pepsi taste turns out in this chew. Could you recognize it while chewing or did it create some special flavour ?

p.s. The DaVinci Butter Rum flavor is fantastic too!.. I get mine from Netrition

Hey JB, my local Bi-mart has sugar free rootbeer snowcone syrup on clearance for 1.50 per quart size bottle or a little less. Made a little batch today, no heat used. Just baking soda and syrup with rough cut leafage. Darn nice, and really not much of any root beer flavor. Whatever is in it goes nice with brown leaf. Will try mixing in a little stevia next time.

Also got a bottle of the Davinci Kahlua sugar free syrup yesterday. Noticed they had sugar free raspberry right next to it, but only wanted to buy one bottle since they are 5 bux a pop. Feelin frugal!

Leaf is Greenwood Dark this year!

I noticed that when I used full-on sugar-based Davinci butter rum flavor, all the sugar in the mouth seemingly interfered with nicotine absorbtion, plus the added knowledge that the sugar was feeding tooth dissolving microbes.

I will certainly stick with the sugar free stuff.

How do you prepare your baccy for chew or snuff? do you just strip it off the stems or brick it and razor it?

I just strip it off the stems and shred it. Don't make it more difficult than it is, just strip the leaf and shred it somehow. You can even wait till it's bone dry and crumble it with your hands. Not the best method but if you don't have a shredder, it'll do. After it's shredded just add some flavoring, a little sugar ( or sugar substitute) and a tiny amount of water. You can heat it for a minute on the stove to help mix the ingredients. You don't need to add all that other "weird" stuff like salt, Sodium Carbonate etc. If your chew comes out too wet, you can cook it a little longer or leave it uncovered for a day or two.

Has anybody worked up a chew recipe that works in coffee? I drank about 6 cups a day and thought a chew mixed with coffee would save me some time during the day...any suggestions?

They put caffeine in aspirin, I guess you could put it in chew but then I think you'd need to swallow it. Pukeing it back up doesn't sound like a good delivery system.

That would be tough to do considering there is not a lot of liquid in chew to begin with. Keep on drinking those 6 cups a day, they will help prevent Type-2 diabetes as well as stroke.

It is interesting to note that one of the health promoting chemicals in coffee is chlorogenic acid. This chemical is also found in tobacco. The darker the leaf the higher the concentration. So chewing tobacco while drinking coffee would be a good way to go!

I don't know about that Dude. Seems to me swallowing tobacco juice, even diluted inn coffee, is a bad thing. -- John

I am wondering if flavoring the baccy leaves with a strong coffee brew would transfer the caffeine to the baccy and then the caffeine and nicotine would be absorbed into the bloodstream ...not swallerin it...

The caffeine would be absorbed but it will be so small compared to drinking a cup of coffee that it would have no effect. A big handful of tobacco would only have about 2 tsp of liquid in it. I don't care how strong you make your coffee you just are not going to get the equivalent amount of caffeine into your chew.
